October Heat Wave
October Heat Wave
As with every October in LA (or at least the last 12 years I've lived here) October is the month of heat waves. And every year the people in LA think that because it's Fall that we should have cooler weather here too. We will, it just won't happen till November. LOL
Since I only started running in April, I'm learning just how difficult it is to run in the heat. Last night's 3.5 mile run was a tough one, what with it being 95 and I'm still recovering from a nasal cold. But I still managed to finish in 32:23. Which is a good time for me for a 5K race but bad for a Half Marathon.
I really need to learn how to slow my pace down. When I first started I ran an 11 min/mile and now I run a 9.5 min/mile. At that pace I'm hitting fatigue after approx 30 minutes. Runnersworld.com predicted, based on my 10K in August, that I would finish the half in 2:19:48.
So I need to work on my endurance running. This Saturday I'm aiming for 5 miles even if I have to take a walking break. It's time for this gal to focus. Besides it's a great distraction from work and finances. *wink
Luckily the day of the event gives you more adrenaline to run farther than you ever have. Which is why I only have to train up to 8 miles in the next 44 days.
Wish me luck!
