Wednesday

Good Wednesday to everyone. This morning I decided to try and post more, what I will post about will be anyone's guess.

But today is easy. Yesterday I went shopping. Not something new being married, and to Pat of all people. She is a professional shopper. Not really but she could be.

No, I went shopping with our Club President for my upcoming Toys For Tots event.

Last year we had a good turnout, we collected 6 bikes, and probably 45-50 toys valued at $10 or more.

This year I mailed out donation requests, as I did last year, but the results were very disappointing. The club had authorized $300 for me to spend anyway needed for the event but in the 4 previous years, I never used more than $50.

This year things are different. The donations are not there. I use the donations for prizes for the pilots to attend and bring toys. The more prizes the better turnout I have.

So off we went to our local hobby shop, Hobby World. Hobby world is a truly private owned business, owned by one family, and have been in business for 30 plus years.

The owner has been battling cancer for the past few years, and I really didn't want to ask for items for nothing. The club president asked him Monday if he would sponsor us and told him what we had to spend. He said "Sure, no problem".

So we went in, looked around, and found a really nice airplane, added a electric motor, and a speed controller and the total was about $300. (This stuff isn't cheap!)

Our club treasurer works at the store, and gave the total to the owner to see what price break we would get so he could pay for the items, and we were shocked when we found out that he GAVE US THE ITEMS!

This is the plane, it is called a Ultimate Biplane, it is very aerobatic, and will be a big hit. After the event is over, I will post the results, how many bikes, how much cash, how many toys. Hoping for a good year for the kids.
