Sexual Harassment

This Herman Cain saga gets more interesting by the day. Let me just say this upfront. I think he is guilty as charged. And I am not speaking as a Liberal Democrat. I am speaking as a woman who has been sexually harassed on the job....not once but several times.

It happened to me back in the days when a woman really had no recourse. If she complained, she....not the man...lost her job. And that is exactly what happened to these women, except that they got big settlements from the American Restaurant Association to leave and sign confidentiality statements.

We know men will lie through their teeth to cover up their dirty little secrets. Bill Clinton did it; John Edwards did it. Those two got caught in their lies; that may not be the case with Herman Cain.

Unless someone comes forth to corroborate these women's stories, it's a classic "he said', "she said" scenario. Only in this case it is "he said, "she said" and "she said" and "she said" and "she said."

Cain is trying to smear this last woman by attacking her reputation. I personally don't care what he digs up on her; if he did what she said, he is a scumbag.

And the fact that she did not immediately tell her boyfriend doesn't surprise me. It is embarassing and humiliating to be sexually harassed. I didn't tell my husband either. I just tried to dodge the men who were guilty if I possibly could.

My best friend at work was also being harassed by the same two men. She and I discussed it; but we kept it to ourselves.

We were the two youngest teachers; neither of us had tenure at the time; and these men, one a coach and one a teacher, took advantage of that.

They might now claim to have no recollection of it, as Cain is doing; but I can tell you that after 40 years I still remember it vividly.

Just as a footnote, I also once had one of my students...a sixteen-year-old make a suggestive remark to me, indicating he would like to come to my house in the evening. My husband was overseas at the time. I was 28 and a mother at the time. I told him that he needed to get a girlfriend his own age and that was the end of that.

Cain is not garnering votes- just air time because the media is milking this for all it is worth.

I continue to defend Bill Clinton from being lumped in with a sleaze like Cain. Monica whosits made a career of becoming involved with older authority figures and stalked him. Yeah, he should have said no and in this he is like so many major figures -- he listened to his pants. He was wrong to succumb but she was a willing and insistent
"victim". If GWB had just gotten a blow job, we would never have gone into Iraq. As for Cain, he is the least credible candidate of that entire field and it is truly a field without character or ability or integrity. If Cain were to get the nomination, it would destroy the Republican party.

I remember once, long ago, where I think I crossed the line (with another teacher). I've felt remorse ever since. There, I've fessed up.

At least you are honest. Most of them would defend themselves and try to place the blame on the woman,,,,as Cain is now doing.

I think sexual harassment, especially more than 10 years ago, was so rife and common, it should be considered a 'given.' I wish our country could just assume every man did it, every woman was a victim, and then move on and talk about real issues. I'm not belittling the seriousness of it, but we need to get past it.

Not every man did it. There were a few who left me alone when I told them to knock it off. Then there was the boss who is, hopefully, long dead by now.

'We know men will lie through their teeth to cover up their dirty little secrets.' And we are found out again!!! I still think Anita Hill got a raw deal and so did the USA with Thomas!!

I agree. He was also guilty. His cheating on his income tax shows his character. He should be thrown off the Supreme court.
