Photos of Model Emerge After Losing Hand & Eye

It's been roughly six weeks since 23-year-old model and blogger Lauren Scruggs accidentally walked into a plane's propellers while taking a tour of Christmas lights around Texas.

The young beauty lost her left eye and hand in the horrific accident. Now the first public photos (courtesy of TMZ) of Lauren have emerged. She is seen leaving a Dallas-area rehabilitation clinic with her parents and twin sister.

Earlier this week, the pilot admitted to the NTSB that he had left the propeller running after landing, but he "leaned out of his seat and placed his right hand and arm in front of her to divert her away from the front of the airplane and the propeller."

Distressing. However, she is still alive and can get an eye and a prosthetic
hand so she is lots better off than most.

That is true. Her mother blogged last week that they had spent three hours with the prosthetic specialist and that it was hard on them all. But she is indeed lucky to be alive.

And I see that the Canadian skier died of injuries. Tragic.

Yes, given the information released by the doctors when her death was announced, she evidently has had no brain function since the time of her accident when her heart stopped beating for several minutes. She had been on a respirator since. I had a feeling this was coming when the doctors and her family cancelled a scheduled news conference day before yesterday to announce the latest results of brain scans. The decision was made then to take her off the respirator, I assume. So tragic for her husband, her parents and siblings as well as the skiing community. She was a favorite to win a gold in the women's halfpipe in the next Olympics.

How very difficult this must be for her and her family. Isn't the blog fueling the media interest?

Actually, I think she chose to appear in public. She didn't have to; but I think she wanted the public to know that she was much better than some of the rumors out there.

I, too, think she should be left alone until she decides otherwise.

I think we all agree that this poor girl has been through enough. However, she's a public figure in Dallas, and that, unfortunately makes her a news item. The press has stayed respectfully back, however.

I wish the media would leave her alone....

I think they are keeping their distance; but her story has touched a lot of people, especially here in Dallas.

Yes,it is a miracle that she is still with us.

A true miracle. And she still has a long and difficult emotional and physical recovery ahead.

Leaning out with the arm like that sounds like 'I didn't abandon the cruise ship, I tripped and stumbled into a lifeboat by accident.'
comment by troutbend on Jan 19, 2012 10:36 AM ()
What I cannot understand is why the propeller was still turning. Why had he not shut off the plane's engine? Yes, I thought his explanation was really lame also. He and the captain of the cruise ship sound like two of a kind.

Sorry but I think everyone should leave her alone and let her get on with her rehabilitation without the public looking on.

It is painful to watch; however, it is a miracle she is even alive.
