High Tech Gadgets

Holly and Bevan are the original "gadget" junkies.  If it is new on the market and it does anything remotely connected to something they might like or utilize, they just can't resist.

Their latest purchase is the Keurig, which is rapidly becoming a hot item for any self-respecting "gadget" aficionado.  What this little machine does is brew individual cups of gourmet coffee, either regular or decaf, mochas, lattes, teas and cocoa, depending on what your preference might be.

All a person has to do is pop one of these little cups into the basket at the front of the Keurig and it brews whatever he has selected in about 30 seconds.  Amazing!  There's also a tray that sits under the Keurig to load with all the different types of cups, so the "brewee" can select his preference.

Speaking of "amazing"! Last night we spoke to Holly in Canberra on their Ipods using facetime, which allows the two people to hook up by video while talking.  Holly was showing us Canberra as we talked with her.  Even Bailey, who is used to high tech gadgets, commented to her mom how amazing it was that she could see and talk to her when she is on the other side of the world.
iPod touch has two built-in cameras, one on the front above the display and one on the back. The front camera has been tuned for FaceTime. It has just the right field of view and focal length to focus on your face at arm’s length. So it always presents you in the best possible light. Which is especially handy when you’re talking to someone who’s more than just a friend.
It has lots of other features as well; the girls download music on it; they play games, and they can text with it as well.

The wonder of modern technology!!

All of technology amazes me. I guess we are living the simple life.

Compared to the life my children and grandchildren live, my is very, very simple.

Keurig is not for me, too wasteful for my green tastes, all those little plastic cups for the landfill leave me cold, but I could get into an iPad one day, and maybe an iPod, but only if I get more mobile. I'm still using my mobile CD player. Oh, and I'd have to get rich first, too. I'm trying to simplify and downsize, which can be a challenge in our consumer driven culture. Wish me luck!

I am also trying to downsize; but, as you say, it is a challenge in today's world.

I try to avoid face time on my phone - it's too Jetson's for me! I must be getting old...

You are not as old as my daughter and she facetimes with her kiddos all the time when she is on business trips.

I consume huge quantities of java. I checked the Staples and Meijer prices for the Keurig units and then the price for the coffee packets. It is like my computer printer, where the ink costs more than the printer! LOL. Nice design, though.

I thought that was a detriment also; but it works well for them because the girls love hot chocolate. I imagine the packets will go down in price as the Keurig becomes more commonplace.

We drink two pots of coffee every morning... That means the think is sucking electricity for 4 hours. I could wait 30 seconds for a cup of coffee, but I'm not sure Donna would. That cup looks small, but if it can do a larger cup, I might invest. The savings in 4 hours at a few hundred watts per day would pay for the unit.

Yes, it is adjustable. You can use any size cup you like.

Some of the Las Vegas hotels have installed those Keurig coffee makers in the rooms, an ideal solution because it's a tidier coffee service, and the guests either feel right at home with it, or get to see how they work. Just think how kids today take all this new technology for granted and they probably get tired of the rest of us making a big deal about it.

Yes, my grandchildren just assume we have always had all these high tech toys. I would think these would be perfect for a hotel room. Holly's office has also purchased one for the break room.

yes, know all about this and bought one last week and brought it back.It was too big for us.
I thought that they had a smaller size? You can still use your own coffee there and they supplied you with this. This is very smart for some. They have everything.I am waiting for the newer iPad coming out next month.

I love how you are into high tech, Fredo!

1) I can't afford the new gadgets 2) I'd rather a waitress serve me my coffee 3) if you figure out the price per cup of coffee it would boggle your mind
How can I get into IPODS--I'm not even into cellphones and don't need another thing to carry around--no wonder there are now 'man bags'!!

That makes two of us!!

Modern technology is wonderful but I fear I will never make full use of it. My learning curve has disappeared.
