The family will be home from the islands tomorrow, but it will be late. I'm sure they will be tired but will have lots of pictures and stories to tell.
I spoke with Holly last weekend; she told me that they had been snorkeling and had seen humpback whales with their baby calves and the large sea turtles, thanks to the captain of the boat that took them out where they snorkeled. The girls were going to boogie board in the ocean later that day.
They planned to leave Maui the next day for Honolulu so they could visit Waikiki and go to the Pearl Harbor Memorial Site, among other things.
Though they have been to Honolulu before, they did not make it to the memorial when they were there. So, they felt they really should go this time around.
Meanwhile, Taylor and I have been holding down the fort here. We really haven't done a lot because he has had a term paper to finish. However, we are going to see a movie tomorrow that he has been waiting to open. It's a "teen" flick, but I have been to tons of cartoon films with all my grandchildren, so I guess I can sit through this one. Something to do with people going to Mars. Â
We have some work to do at my apartment later today, but we are waiting this morning for the men to deliver a new bed that Holly and Bevan ordered. It is a "sleep number" model, which the physical therapist recommended for Holly, who has a lot of trouble with pain in her shoulders and back. We shall see if it helps her. I hope it does, because it was NOT cheap.
I'm inclined to think her problem is probably due more to her sitting at her computer all day typing briefs or whatever the heck she does as well as spending a lot of time on airplanes. All I know is that the company pays her a big chunk of change to do it and she is not at liberty to discuss much of it. Her family doesn't seem to mind. They just enjoy the good life it affords all of them.
They give faithfully, however, to help those less fortunate as well and to their church. I hate people who make a lot of money and never think to share with those less fortunate. To me, that is the height of conceit and selfishness.
Holly and Bevan's church does a lot of mission work with inner city kids. In fact, Bailey and her youth group will be leaving just as soon as school is out on a mission trip to Atlanta. Last year they went to Nashville.
The youth group goes right down into the ghetto areas to put on programs for the kids and to visit with them personally. They pass out CD's, movies, etc., to the kids. They coordinate with other youth programs in the city as well to provide food and clothing. Of course, they have sponsors with them at all times; but there is an element of danger involved, nonetheless. Bailey loves it though. She can't wait for this year's trip.
That's it for Friday. Have a great weekend!
