Dallas Area in Chaos from Spate of Tornadoes

Many of the suburbs of Dallas are in chaos today after furious storms moved through between 2 and 4 today.  Tornadoes were touching down everywhere.
One passed just a mile east of where I live.  These storms have now moved on with points east of Dallas still in jeopardy.

The storms hit several suburbs of Dallas, among the most severe being in Arlington, Lancaster and Forney.  The newscastor right now is stating that there have been at least five super cells that produced a plethora of tornadoes and at least ten cities have sustained damage.
110 planes were also damaged at DFW and officials cancelled all flights for today.  Many flights diverted to other airports.  Every plane will have to be inspected before those planes can fly again.  According to one source, it takes about 2 to 3 hours to inspect them.
So, DFW will be running on limited capacity for several days.
There have been injuries but no fatalities have been confirmed.  Some are in the hospital in critical condition.

Despite the many reports of tornadoes we all get, it still blows us away--the devastation and all. Glad you were among the lucky ones.

So glad you were not in their path!

I was too close for comfort. One passed less than a mile from my home, but luckily no damage here.

I worried about you and am relieved to know it missed you. It is a crapshoot
and I had hoped to have a storm shelter by this season. I feel so sorry
for those who have to start over.

Yes, I was lucky once again. As you say, it's a crapshoot, especially when they are touching down everywhere as they were yesterday. There are so many who lost nearly everything; but thankfully no deaths. I can only attribute that to the time of day they hit. Many were at work and not at home. This hit mostly industrial and suburban areas.

This was the lead story on Nightly News and they played it for a good five minutes. This isn't as unusual as one would think--all the "preseason" activity--turns out that in 1979 there were something like 104 storms. I didn't catch all the details on that. We talk about moving sometimes to avoid floods, but the parts of the country we find desirable are even more dangerous. As I said during the hurricane last summer... At least I still have a basement to flood. Many houses were totaled in upstate NY.

This kind of activity is actually rare when tornadoes are just touching down everywhere.

WOW!!! Just saw the story on Diane Sawyer's news program--semis over-turning, etc.
Yep no global warning affecting weather!!! LOL

These storms hit in the middle of the afternoon...rare for tornadoes. They usually hit around dusk.

We don't get them very often around here, but they invariably include a trailer park in the path of destruction.

It seems that way. These storms hit some really nice neighborhoods, however.

It is unusual when tornadoes hit urban areas, but they do on occasion.
