Chrstmas Bargains

Holly and I went shopping yesterday to finish getting our Christmas gifts.  We went to what is usually a busy mall on a Saturday.   We were shocked that it was no busier, if as busy, than just a regular Saturday.
"It's ONE WEEK until Christmas.  WHERE are all the people?" she asked.  When I worked at Dillards(during the time she was in college), it was just a blur from Thanksgiving until Christmas."
And the sales the stores already were offering were amazing.  Every single item was 30 to 50 per cent off.  Plus, any purchase over a certain amount automatically generated anywhere from 15 to 30 dollars more off.  And I am not just talking the stores with cheaper merchandise.  I am talking EVERY single store.
We got some amazing buys for pennys on the dollar. "We never took a markdown on ANYTHING until AFTER Christmas," Holly added.
It really brought home to us two things--first and foremost just how bad the economy really is; secondly, that a lot more people must be buying online, which normally will always be cheaper than comparable merchandise in the stores.

The men will be out in full force this week, esp. Thursday and Friday! (I'm done)

We are having the markdowns here too. The stores aren't very crowded
and Kohls, Sears and Penny's have great bargains. I am done so I am
no longer motivated.

I'm done now as well. I finished Saturday.

Just be glad you have some money for more than just the basics. Bargains abound for those who can buy gifts. Sadly, the Great Recession is truly a depression in Northwest Ohio.

I'm afraid that may be the case in more places than just Ohio.

Stores are packed and line ups are long here. So glad my shopping is done.
I used to shop at Dillards when I was young, single and employed.

Canada's economy must be in better shape than ours. I'm hearing the same from all over--that stores are NOT packed and sales abound BEFORE Christmas.

I will be going shopping Tuesday or Wednesday - weather permitting

I hope you will be able to get to the stores by then. Surely, you will be.

I found that to be true here too. I bought mu DIL a 12.5 carat amethyst bracelet for $69 at Sears!

This is the year to buy those extra nice gifts. You can get them at great prices.

you just happened to pick a lucky day to shop.
This is the final week and things will heat up fast.I kid you not.

Maybe so, but I have to say that this mall sits right in the heart of upper Middle Class North Dallas. It should have been busier than it was.

We're headed for the mall on Monday, avoided it this weekend thinking it'd be busy, but the local news said the same thing you noticed - stores not very busy.

I just could not believe that one week before Christmas that these stores are marking merchandise way down. I have seen the normal Christmas shoppers a week before Christmas, and this was NOT it.
