This Saturday, our instructor and the advanced class will be featured in the 3rd Annual Makoto Taiko Performance at the Shumei Hall in Pasadena.
The press will be there and PBS will be filming. Our 'sensei' (instructor) is famous in Japan and was sent here two years ago to teach taiko. PBS has been compiling his life story which is to air around the holidays.
I just learned at Tuesday night's class that he only teaches once a year, which is the time table for students from beginner to advanced status.
Though it is exhiliarating and fun, it is also discipline and respect. Already into week four, the differences can be seen between those who have it and those who don't.
As our songs get more complex, our memories and physical stamina are being tested. So far, am loving this class.
