E. Tolle

So I just bought and read A New Earth by Eckhart T. Oprah's all abuzz about it. A friend and I thought: what the hey.

NUTSHELL: We need to:

a/ live in the present moment instead of allowing the rewinding of past tapes and worries of the future

b/ practice breathing deeply with positivity

c/ learn humility, gratitude, kindness, and letting go of past hurts/resentments.

DID I FORGET ANYTHING? THOUGHTS?

Yep, one of the most ignored of Jesus' teachings: "Do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself". Hard to just put it all in His hands though. I'm sure it is a helpful book.Cheers

I read "The Power of Now" and found it life changing. And as you know, I've now signed up for the class on "A New Earth". I figure I'll get everything possible out of it hopefully with this experience...I'll let you know. I have not read the whole book yet, but look forward to it!

If you've distilled the essense of it in these 3 simple precepts, you may have overpaid for the book... not that these aren't good thoughts. But I must admit, I prize memory (the past) as a rich store w/o which people would be zombies, and a lack of concern for the future (living in the present only)has led to excess and trouble before (e.g. the Roaring Twenties, the drugged Sixties).

Sylvia! I'm so glad to find you one mybloggers!!!
I definitely want to read this book. I think my daughters would enjoy it, too. We're still re-grouping from all the mess in the fall, and this book and it's philosophies certainly couldn't hurt. Thanks for posting on it.

I had become acquainted with the importance of "being present" in a philosophy class many years ago. Tolle makes the concept simple for those who can get past the intellectualizing of life. No dogma, no doctrine! There are a few points that are often misunderstood, for example, Staying present does NOT mean we can't plan for the future. The experience that Tolle guides us through in The Power of Now and Stillness Speaks has changed my life! I haven't read his most recent work, and perhaps I won't, but the basic idea leads to unimagined freedom!
