Well, SIL's contractions are happening pretty frequently, so she went into the hospital a couple hours ago. Exciting stuff.
Needless to say, the in-laws wasted no time and were immediately on their way into town the moment they got the call. However, MIL has had a really bad cold lately, so I'm kind of wondering if they'll let her in the maternity ward? Oh man... if they don't, she'll have a conniption fit and start crying for sure. I wouldn't want to be there for that! I've seen how rude she can be to random waitresses, so I'd hate to see her reaction to someone who stands between her and her first grandchild. Yikes! Don't poke the bear. Hopefully they'll give her a surgical mask or something and let her in.
MIL keeps calling us to see if we have any updates and to ask why we're not at the hospital yet. I personally have no intention of going up to the hospital until my new niece or nephew is actually born... (like SIL suggested.) I don't see why we're expected to go there and hang out for hours n' hours on end with bated breath. But that's just me. I guess I'm kinda the least sentimental one of the bunch. :P
J tells me that on every television show or movie he has ever watched, everyone is always waiting at the hospital before the child is born. I think J watches too many movies. Of course, television and movies also taught him how to be romantic, so I can't curse at the boob tube too much.
Anyhow, we shall see what time will bring. I have a feeling I'm gonna be sitting around thumbing through outdated magazines at some point during the day. I just hope that SIL has a quick and relatively easy delivery and that the baby is healthy. Really, what more can you ask for?
And while I'm on the topic of nieces and nephews, I'm very happy to say that my sister had an appointment this morning with a local organization that helps people in her and my niece's situation. I was very happy to hear that!
Long story short, they asked my sister a million comprehensive questions, and determined that my niece definitely has anxiety issues. They would like to set up an appointment to meet with her themselves in 4 - 6 weeks, but in the meantime they suggested that she should start meeting with a school counsellor. So my sister immediately called the school to set that up.
While Sis was speaking to Niece's teacher, she made another appointment to go back to the school tomorrow to find out the results of my niece's learning assessment. It sounds like they found something, and should be able to accommodate her needs.
I'm so, so, so glad that she will start getting the help she needs. SO glad!
Today is a good day.
I've had three babies. I hated people waiting outside for me. I hope you didn't go.
