Religion and Politics

Hey, you got religion in my politics! No! You got politics in my religion!

BLAGHHH!!!!

Quite frankly, I still think the idea of separation between church and state is a good one. I am a Mormon. Despite what some may try to tell you, Mormons are also Christians. Reconciling both with politics can be a challenge. Some vote strictly along party lines. Others along conservative, liberal, or religious lines. Hot topics like abortion and now gay marriage helps to sway people, often using the 'guilt factor'. I've always had a healthy disdain for manipulation and oversimplification.

I hate that we Christians have to feel compelled to vote for inferior candidates simply because of their stand on these two things. There are other issues! It's my opinion that being 'anti-public-health-care' is tantamount to being pro-abortion. Likewise, supporting senseless warfare. Hello! People are dying! And do we honestly think the country will be well served by putting a man of lesser integrity, intelligence, leadership skills, eloquence, compassion, wisdom, and strength in the oval office solely for the purpose of preventing gays from being able to marry?

I'm sorry Brother Romney, I really wanted to like you. I tried, but in the end I think Obama is the best man for the job.

Obama has had my vote all along. Romney ties dogs to the roof of his car, doesn't care about others (clearly demo'd by Seamus on the roof) and wants to cut healthcare and womens rights. First and on the forefront for me ALWAYS is who has women's issues on their mind and are willing to support us? Usually Dem's...

Yep, I voted for him four years ago and have not been sorry.

Good thinking! Despite the right's continued oversimplifications, President Obama is the man with character and true convictions, which will always do better by us than a man who is a chameleon saying whatever he thinks it'll take to win office.

I agree!

I wonder if things would be different if the Republican platform was more moderate and, as you say, stayed away from the issues so important to the religious right.

I'm sure it would be quite different. I wish those issues, especially abortion, would just lie down and die.

Obama is the best man for the job if the objective is redistribution and socialism. Enjoy!

Every president 'redistributes'. I'm fine with the pendulum swinging the way it is.

Just curious because I read it on another blog site---Romney is a Mormon--Mormons are not suppose to lie--he has--what are the consequences in the Mormon church?
Mother always said don't discuss religion or politics (but whoever listens to mother? LOL)

Being a Mormon does not automatically make one 'perfect'. We are human and make mistakes, just like everyone else. The Church does not dole out consequences for every sin a person commits. Ideally, one would be striving to do the best they can, and repenting when they fall short of the mark.

I was not raised to keep silent about politics or religion, though I usually steer clear, figuring that if people wanted to know, they would ask. Indeed, I think both need to be talked about at least occasionally, provided it is for the purpose of growth and enlightenment.
