Out 'N' About

It's raining today. Can't complain too much cuz we've had blue skies almost every day this month. You know what they say, there's gotta be a little rain sometime.

We had learned that the Farmer's market is open on Wednesdays as well as Saturdays. Even though it was raining, we decided to check it out as our Saturdays are filled with other things and we can't seem to remember to go then. It was... interesting.

We didn't know what to expect this time of year. Considering it's January, I thought the selection was pretty respectable, though the prices seemed high to us. We bought purple and yellow carrots, white beets, a very ripe persimmon, some absolutely gorgeous cherry tomatoes, a bag of lemons, and some dried heirloom tomatoes.

Yes, we got rained on, but not too much. Afterward, we wanted to see a couple of nearby towns so we drove around a bit. Again, these were towns we'd visited on our honeymoon. I wouldn't have recognized them. There was a particular store that we were hoping to find, but we couldn't find it. Oh well. We stopped in at a couple of thrift stores instead, and of course we HAD to buy something.

Our daughter was ready to be picked up about the time we got back to our neck of the woods. Hubby made us all some really delicious soft tostadas. YUM! I think this diet might be doing me some good since I think I had better stamina than I can remember in recent times. That was encouraging!

Anyway, blah, blah. That was our day. Hope you all had a good one!

If you have an aldi's store, they have good produce that is cheap sometimes
but our farmers market is out of sight. Tomatoes and squash I will grow
myself.

I don't think we have that store. I've got plans in the works of growing a few things, but haven't put them into place yet. It just got bumped higher on the priority list!

Reading that outing, i thought you were in winter there but with those vegies you cant be?
Our farmers markets are held on Sundays in various places around adelaide where you can get cheap fresh produce all year round.
When cath and i go driving around i always say we are having a cooks tour
Used google earth to look up your town, thought i would see snow, looks a very nice place to live with everthing needed in town, that river there would be good for fishing i reckon

OH, I guess I need to update the town I live in as we no longer live in Tillamook. But yes, Tillamook is a very nice place. Very green, and moderate climate... as in not much snow. It rains a plenty, though. Now we live in northern California, where you can pretty much garden all year long. I like that idea..."a cooks tour".

Some of the farmers at our summer farmers' markets in Colorado discount the vegetables at the end of the day - a big bag of cucumbers for a good price, for example. But generally, their prices seem high there, too.

That's what we were hoping for, but nobody seemed to have any sales, even though they were about to close. We paid the high prices, mostly because we figured they deserved something for their effort for coming out on this rainy day. We probably won't be back for a while, though, as Safeway prices are at least as good. Eventually we'll have our own garden.

The prices here at the Farmer's Market are outrageous!!!

I thought so too, about the prices here! I'll try again in the summer. Until then, I think Safeway's organic produce will do.
