I'll try not to bore you with too many diet posts but I thought I'd report this little milestone. 5 lbs is a fairly minor success, but just knowing I made it through the holidays makes me feel a little more triumphant about it. It was definitely a strange time to decide to change my ways. Several people from church brought goodies over, which my daughter was very happy to remove from my sight.
I didn't want to tell them I wasn't eating sweets. Knowing how much work goes into baking Christmas treats, I didn't want to seem ungrateful. The few people I 'gifted' got See's Candy. I'm reluctant to have people looking over my shoulder, though I suppose I'm inviting you all to do that by blogging about it.
Surfing the internet, I discovered that there is a new word for the kind of diet I'm espousing. Nutritarian. There is guidance as well, which I've found myself in need of. I just love reading about the other people who are, or have been doing this, too.
Numerous people have lost over a hundred pounds by adopting this method of eating but that's not the only benefit. Other conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, allergies, acne, auto-imune conditions, arthritis, fibromyalgia, just to name a few, are more often than not completely done away with.
I suspect that my hip will still need surgery, regardless of whether I lose a lot of weight. However, I would like to feel that I have done all I can, first. There is such a long way to go, I can't think too far ahead or I might become overwhelmed or even discouraged. I have to appreciate the little improvements along the way.
It may sound odd but I measure visible progress by my hands, because they are so easy to observe, and because minute changes are noticeable. They are less puffy, more even in skin tone, and have what I can only describe as a 'sheen' to them. It's not just about the weight. I'm striving for vibrancy, vitality, energy, etc.
Well, that's the scoop. Don't need a New Years Resolution. I'm on it! More importantly, I'm enjoying it! Ya'll have a great day!
