There Must Be a Better Way!

Well, I was going to write about cooking beans, but since the topic of the shooting is still so fresh and intense, my bean dilemma seems too silly to care about. So what do I write about? Do I rehash unpleasant memories of family? Do I remind people that every year children shoot children? I can think of at least four or five incidences of how a child got hold of a gun and shot a brother or a sister 'accidentally'.

One incident happened in my former home town, right as the step dad was teaching the three boys how to shoot! Seriously! Or should I exclaim... SERIOUSLY? You want to teach children how to shoot guns? It was all perfectly legal, and well within that parent's rights. He really thought he was doing the kids a favor by taking them shooting. Now one kid is dead, and the rest permanently emotionally scarred.

Another incident happened in a family where the dad was extremely careful about locking things up tight. Sadly, young eyes were watching, and when both parents were away, and the little sister got to be too annoying, the boy went to where everything was locked up. Knowing exactly what to do every step of the way he got the key, the guns, the ammo, and shot his sister to death.

In another incident, which happens quite often, a boy was handling a rifle, just playing, and it went off, shooting a brother. It happens every year in every state. Sometimes it's a neighbor, sometimes a friend. Accidental shootings occur all the time with perfectly legal weapons in perfectly law abiding households.

Gun control? How? Who? Let's talk about stupidity control. In my opinion, people with children in the home should not have a guns, ever! Simple as that. Kids, even those without any sign of mental instability, lack wisdom and judgment. Unless you can supervise your child every moment of every day, (and what parent can?) you should not leave this hazardous temptation anywhere nearby.

This show called "End Time Preppers" is really scary to me. People are gearing up for some kind of apocalypse, and possibly creating it in the process! The only thing I intend to store is FOOD, and possibly blankets. If my neighbors come, hungry, I will feed them. I would rather face the risk of marauders invading my food stash than to have to deal with the kinds of tragedies listed above.

what you have written makes good sense , only last week here where we do have gun controls , a father was in court and was heavily fined , his 14 year old son had taken his fathers pistol to school and fired a shot.
the father did have a license allowing the gun to be used at pistol club shoots the fine was for not having the gun locked away securely .

Even when guns are locked away securely, kids can often figure out how to get to them. This case of yours is a good example.

Our society is too violent. Pop culture is too blame for a lot of it. Video
games that are full of violence should not be allowed. Children need to
experience an extended family. They need the love and stability they get
from aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. Parents are not perfect even
when we do the best we can. They need adults they look up to as role
models. If people were careful with guns, this accidental shooting would
stop. There is so much that needs to be done.

I agree wholeheartedly!

I have a feeling that he means right and we will see.Gun control is very hard to controlled.
Now if we can this stupid fiscal cliff over with and maybe something can be done.

So many reasons I seldom tune in to the news!

Bill Maher said people don't need guns--food is sold in stores!
In this day and age nobody has to go out and kill defenseless animals 'to put food on the table'--It's a sad world we live in!

If the truth be told, food need not ever be shot at all!

Nice to see somebody making sense. Yes, these thinks happen all the time and it's only the large number of victims at one time that creates drama. Here is something else to consider: It takes more training and testing to get a driver's license than it does to become a parent. Anybody can do it. Then when generation A births generation B and generation B can't raise generation C, generation A takes generation C and the process starts again--one incompetent generation after another. IMO, the place to start is with the family. "Family control" instead of "gun control"? It wouldn't go over well but it is the root of the problem.

I'm not a supporter of the 'blame the parents' mentality, unless the parents had the opportunity to raise their kids in a bubble, safe from all outside influences, which would very likely bring about it's own set of problems. I know parents who've done everything they could to keep their children safe, including home schooling their kids all the way through high school, only to have some insidious influence in the form of drugs or inappropriate relationships come in and pull them off course. The only guarantee of avoiding such things is to have no children at all, something many people are practicing.

did you catch the President noon time on gun control?

Not till you mentioned it. I tuned in to the one he made today, if that's what you mean. We'll see what comes of it.
