I am not really sure what it is about my library, but we seem to have more than our fair share of medical crises. We seem to have someone collapse about once every four-to-six months.
On Friday, we had our most recent incident. One of our regular teen patrons was in. He had come to meet with his tutor, and they were quietly working in the seating area that is located in the magazine and video area. She noticed that he was having trouble answering questions, even once that he had just answered correctly. When she was asking him about that, he started to have a seizure. It was one of the full-blown variety that left his body lurching. There is actually very little you can do for a person in that situation besides try and clear the are of things they can hurt themselves on and call for an ambulance.
Fortunately, it seemed to turn out all right, though it really rattled the nerves of the tutor. By the time he was being taken out to the ambulance, the young man seemed to be stabilized. He was able to talk and such. I did overhear one of the EMTs talking to him and saying that it had been a while since they had seen him so I am guessing he must have a history of seizures, which had recently quieted down.
The good thing is that he is at least OK.
