For the past few months, I have seen an interesting thing happening in my life. It seems like my life has been shifting a bit. At least, it is changing in what I think is the most important things to worry about. Ray accused me of going through a midlife crisis. Maybe it is, maybe not. (Don't worry, Martin. I checked out Passages so maybe I will find the answers there when I get into it).
A lot of it comes down to my long-term focus on the professional aspect of my life. I will admit it! I am a workaholic and an overachiever. I am not sure if it is burnout or what, but I am feeling like I don't want to go at it quite as hard as I have been. It is not that I want to change professions or give up what I do, but I am not sure that I feel the need to put in so much overtime anymore.
The other thing is that there are two parts of my life that I would like to increase some of my focus on. The first of which is the stuff I do for my community. I am going to throw this out there. I already made a reference to it in a post on Monday or Tuesday. I am being lobbied to run for town council. It has to do with some of the weird politics in town and a need to protect the town from a particular person and his stoogies. We have three members of the council that are serious considering whether or not they want to run for reelection. If they don't there is a good chance that this guy might get some his friends on the council, which could cause serious trouble.
A part of me is interesting. To be honest, I have always planned to do it, but it was something that I had figured I would do much later in my life. I am about 80% positive that I am going to run. I am just planning to sit down with a former councilwoman and a current councilwoman. I told them that I want them to tell me everything bad about running and sitting on the council to try to scare me out of it. If I am still interested, and I am able to get the nomination from the Democratic party in town, Bugg won't be the only person in MyBloggerstown running for election.
The other thing that I have been enjoying is really getting back into the whole gay community a lot more again. I sorta lost touch a bit when I moved out into the boonies. It was just a convenience thing since I am so far out of the loop. Well, getting a chance to go clubbing again has changed a little bit of that. Now, it is not just the club scene. I really want to get involved with the politics/civil rights aspects of things a lot more. Of course, this probably wouldn't help my chances for Town Council, though.
So, in a way, I guess I a split personality. So, I guess it will be interesting to see this all play out. Will I get to be Burrillville's first out councilperson? Will I get to explore more of my gay side? Will I keep working myself to the bone? Only the future knows.
In a way, I guess it fits having three perspectives to focus on since Greek mythology defined humanities future with the three fates.

First of all, I suck for not getting caught up on you until now. I'm a self absorbed b*tch sometimes and I'm sorry.
Obviously, the decision of whether or not to run is entirely yours and it's certainly one that needs to be carefully weighed (I just read Clovis' comment...), but something tells me that whatever you choose, you'll do it for the greater good. That's what I love about you, AJ.
As for the rest... shifts are *good* things, as long as we look at it that way...perspective is everything...and you've got a great perspective.

Politics is a very dirty game. Are you ready to have your private life dragged through the sewer of lies and misinformation and hung out to dry? Are you ready for death threats and christian fundies to picket your house with 'god hates fags' signs... are you ready to give up entirely all privacy? Think long and hard. It's not for nothing that decent people very, very seldom run for public office. You have only one life and to stuff it up because of some notion about working for the public good doesn't seem that smart to me. Look at the few public figures who have been decent over the ages and ask yourself what they have accomplished. King? even the secular constitution of the founding fathers has been totally corrupted to serve political and commercial gains. Your choice, but think carefully.

Already told you I noticed a little change in your doings. Not only the work is keeping you busy, but there is more. Politics and yes even the clubbing is a great thing. Keep us informed, I feel happy for you!
I say go for it! What do you have to loose?

AJ, let me be honest with you..I think your the perfect young man to do this. Your one of the most honest, sweet and upfront people I know. I know I would vote for you. I think this world needs someone with your honestly and motivation. Stand up and let your community know what you stand for...I think the world needs all the fighters it can get...not just the gay community either. I'd love to see you go for it.
You have some conflicting issues there among your three sides. I would say that cutting back on work is definitely a good thing. The other two could present difficulties if you try both at the same time, so I guess you will probably have to decide which is more important at this particular stage of life. Good luck, whatever way you decide to go.

At least you aren't two faced--couldn't resist.!
One of the most important questions I was asked when I was in my 30s was when I was all caught up in the weight reduction field and I was asked what I would do and/or what would happen if I couldn't work in it anymore--it motivated me to expand my world and even contemplate a life without WW or OW--guess what? That is what happened when I reached 40. My question to you is what would you do if you had to go into another profession??

I think you'd make a splendid councilman! I would vote for you... This is a very good decision you've made! BTW, are you doing an exceedingly great amount of writing or are you moving your Blogster stuff over??
