The Tiffin Art Guild's "Can-It" auction of painted metal trash cans went well. We raised about $4700.00. My can, "Vincent's On The Can," went for $270.00. I worked at our club booth four and a half hours yesterday and about the same today, plus working at the auction holding up cans so the circled bidders could see them. That's my cousin in the photo with me.
I am done with pro-bono artwork for the year. I need to have cash going into MY account now instead of the club's. So....
The USA team just won the Ryder Cup of golf. The Ryder Cup is played every two years for three days, alternating between Europe and the US. This year's event was at Valhalla G.C. in Kentucky. It is the cream of golf's competitions, even more than any of the majors. It is the World Series, the Super Bowl and the World Cup rolled into one.
Today was the very last baseball game to ever be played at Yankee Stadium. Next year the Yankees will play in the new one, just across the road in the Bronx.
The Chicago Cubs clinched their division title yesterday. It is the first time the Cubs have ever done it back-to-back.
The Indians' starter, Cliff Lee, is 22-2. He is a lock-down cinch for the American League Cy Young Award. Last year the Indians' C.C. Sabathia won the award. Cliff will get one more start, so he could even get a 23rd win - or a third loss.
What happens on the stock exchanges tomorrow? The indexes will probably go up again. There is a temporary prohibition on short-selling. That means more hedge funds and shorts will cover their exposure, which means they will have to buy back the stock they already sold. Buying is upward pressure. Most of this will all level off in a few days when the trillion dollar government rescue deal is done. Without the deal the world of finance (and I DO mean "world") would have probably collapsed in a few days. After that, with no credit markets, the whole economy would have shattered.
We were that close.
