A friend called this morning to check up on me and wish me an early happy birthday.
He switched to his woes and the condition of his retirement fund, mostly stuck in losing common stocks. One of his large hunks is Chesapeake Energy, which dropped precipitously this morning. It is a huge coal and natural gas company. Another loser he owns is RIMM (Nasdaq) Research In Motion, the company that owns the Blackberry patents. Blackberry phones are going away soon, as the iPhones and other more advanced ones are killing it.
"What stocks do you have, Jon?" He asked.
"Lots of beans, frozen vegetables, catfood, a couple of frozen tri-tip roasts, a trio of corned beef packages and a few frozen kielbasa sausages," I said.
