Musing Monday Night ...

I posted a comment on Hayduke's story about his doctor's report on the Colonoscopy. It was in jest, of course. I don't tolerate shooting doctors.

About six years ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson;s Disease. I was devastated. Parkinson's is usually pretty damned fatal.

I put my will on paper. I finally went to another doctor who had me try Carbidopa-Levidopa. It cost a fortune and I had to take it three times a day. It made me listless and it was difficult to stay awake.

After a couple of months my new doc asked me how the shaking was going. I said that it still presented.

She told me that if that was so I didn't have Parkinson's. I had Essential tremor and it wasn't fatal.

I thought about the previous doctor(s). I wanted to go shoot them right between the eyes. I didn't.

...........

I have collected six mosquito bites. Last year I had one, on an ear lobe.

The May through June period last year was a bad drought here. We had a quarter inch of rain between May 16 and the Fourth of July.

This year we have had rain about one out of three days. We have had torrential downpours, light rains, high winds, tornadoes, lightning crashes, hail and just about everything this side of a supernova.

The corn and wheat are magnificent. I have never seen this many grains on a single strand of wheat before!

I played golf three times last year with a farmer. We talked alot about the ethanol-corn thing and I told him it would be wiser to plant more wheat. He didn't agree at first and told me all the farm specialists were saying to plant lots of corn.

I told him that the overplanting of corn was going to result in higher wheat prices. He thought about it, but at the end of our golf league we parted for the cold season.

Last Thursday I played with him again. He told me he took my advice to heart and doubled his wheat acreage. He told me it is going to be the best year - weather providing - that he has ever had. That goes IF the wheat prices hold up at these high levels.

I should be a farm advisor? Maybe I should ask him for a finder's fee?

...............

I plan to finish the damned cowboy hat tomorrow - Tuesday. I have been planting emails tonight to get the coordinator to help me wrap it up. Photos need to be taken, including one of me with the hat. Then it has to be in Columbus by next Monday.

This thing has controlled me for two weeks.

I want to paint my own canvasses.

..............

Whether you liked him or not, George Carlin was the most important comic since Lenny Bruce. I'll miss him.

..............

I need a drink.

Great post~ I was think you could sell your "corn" painting a fuel company and make a pretty penny now.

Now that there has been so much flooding in Iowa, those with corn in the field in other states might get good prices. A couple years ago my corn sold for $2.85 a bushel and last year it was $7.35. If we get enough rain and other conditions are favorable this year's crop should bring a good price, too.

I loved George Carlin, it broke my heart when I heard he passed away. I was home sick and since have just felt blah. That time of year I guess.

P.S. George Carlin has been one of my favorite comedians since I first saw him on the Tonight Show at least 30 years ago. He did a skit on the hippy dippy weather man, and another on pop "lyrics" (baby, baby, baby, ooo, ooo, ooo). He was a true original. I shall miss him too.

So happy the original diagnosis was a mistake. Did it have an up
side in that you reorganized your priorities? Sometimes a real
scare will do that. Don't you love medical jargon -- an "essential" tremor. Sheesh. Can't wait to see you wearing your hat. Yes, you should
start a home-based financial advice service.

I take ambien for insomnia. it doesn't cure it, but I do get some sleep now. I had such a problem falling asleep before.

I once had a doctor tell me my insomnia problems were all in my head. I switched docs and was prescribed anti-anxiety and sleeping meds. I am much better to get along with now.

Let's share a drink and a toast to George Carlin. He won the Mark Twain Prize this year and richly deserved it. Look for a great PBS tribute and retrospective this fall.
Looking forward to seeing you in that hat!

I've already written a blog about doc telling me I need open heart surgery and then disappearing for 10 days.
The seniors here believe the further you stay away from doctors the healthier you'll be and the longer you'll live--I think they have something there!
