Hobbes developed a conjuntive problem a while back. He had dark eye discharge in his left eye and the conjunctive tissue, like a frog, covered the corner of the eye. As is the case, he also had snorting discharges from that side of his nostrils. I took him to see the Vets. The first visit was with a young new female Veterinarian who decided to treat him with an anti-bacterial and an ointment which I had to apply to his eye.
The problem got worse. So I called and made a second appointment. This time, a week later, I got him in to see an male doc whom he had seen last spring for his weight loss concerns. The doctor increased his meds but without any change in the diagnosis. I suggested that since the medication had made no difference that maybe Hobbes' malady was not bacterial.
After another week as the problem seemed to get even worse, I called and asked to talk to the owner doctor, a man who treated several of my cats with success. I took him in to see that vet and he immediately agreed with me. He prescribed a strong anti-viral, and he gave Hobbie a huge injection to begin the new treatment.
In just a few days, with me treating him with 1cc of Orbax once a day and a few drops of Gentamicin liquid in the eye twice a day, he began to improve. I am also feeding him the powdered form of Transfer Factor with his wet morning food (it helps the immune system.)
His eye is returning to near normal. The discharge from the tear ducts has stopped. His nose is almost normal. And the conjunctive tissue is barely visible.
I should have been a Virologist. Doctor House here.
