It's gone. The Big Snow of 2008 is over here.
I measured three places in the back yard away from the house and trees.
12 inches
15 inches
19 inches
The average is what you use to calculate snow depth. So it came to 15 inches plus.
I had to shovel off the back steps, which are open to the sky. They I shoveled a one-shovel-wide path to the trash bin so I could get the two days of trash out of the house. It took six shovels to get the snow off the top of the bin!
Forget my car! I can't even see it. I don't plan to even begin uncovering it until Monday. The TV keeps running Public Service announcements about removing cars from snow streets. They have to be plowed. But where the heck are the owners going to park them? The alleys haven't been plowed. My alley is still deeper than the height of my car's bumpers.
I do see a few more taxi cabs on the main street out front. Good idea! I wonder if they are charging premium rates for driving on many inches of packed snow? The plows are few and far between, still.
Nothing is open anyway. I called my Mom's care center to check on her and to have them tell her I can't get out. Sunday brunch is off. I will take her out for lunch later this week when it gets to the 40's.
Cleveland is still getting blizzard conditions. Some places there (100 miles east) have over two feet of snow. The airport has been closed all day and won't allow landings or takeoffs till tomorrow morning. The TV news is showing people stranded there who were going to Puerto Rico.
Look out New England and upstate NY. You get it now.
