Flood Crested Last Night ...

45 homes were evacuated, although some folks down in the lower basin along the river never left. Many basements are full of water. It is bitter cold, too.

We are high and dry. No problem, except that it got pretty scary when it rained those buckets on Tuesday and Wednesday. We got more than the normal February precipitation in less than three hours.

What a horrible start to the Year! Hope they get that cleared up soon. Our village floods regularly, we have a good community spirit here, we all help each other out in the hour of need. Take care Jon

It got to 11.83 feet. 8 feet is "Flood." 9.5 feet is Moderate Flood. 11 feet is Major Flood. This was the 4th worst in our history. 1913 had the other three, all within the same month, and over 50 people died in those. Now we have warnings and flood walls in some places, so people are smart about getting to safety. These are not flash floods that come with no warning. These were gradual and people in the flood-prone areas actually moved most of their belongings up to second floors or out of their houses.

I drove south of town and across a main highway bridge this morning. The river is a half mile wide there and laps at the bridge pavement. A hotel just by the bridge has been abandoned and is under water. The fields beyond are flowing river now. It is not in a hurry to subside.

I'm so happy to hear you are above all this. This is just awful!
