The Awful Times ...

I just got a phone call from Teal and she didn't know about my pneumonia. I guess that I have been so wrapped up in Hobbie's illness that I neglected to write about it here.

I don't get 'colds,' and seldom get influenza or other common pulmonary illnesses. I go straight from a few sneezes into bacterial or viral pneumonia, sometimes the double-type.

This happened later last week into the weekend and by Sunday morning I was down with it and back to taking two-a-day Augmentins. Augmentin is the pill of 'last resort.' It is Amoxycillin/Clavamox. Heavy duty meds.

I am now on day 5 of the pills. The chills are gone. The chills had me wearing four layers of clothing on Sunday and Monday. Monday it was in the sixties and I was freezing. But no more chills today. The coughing has moderated. My liquid nose output has dropped. I still have to get up to go pee every hour on the hour. Last night I made seven trips. The diarreah is over, too. That only lasted two days this time.

TMI? Then stop reading and go watch some nice mind-numbing TV.

Hobbes is unchanged, at least visibly. he moved around a lot today. I opened windows and carried him to the nicest spot to watch birdies.

He has a good appetite, but the steroids do that.

I just stood on the scale and had not since last week. I lost six pounds since Thursday last! OMG.

Nancy Casto sent a huge care package. Thank you, our Angel of Mercy!

Concentrating on your perfect health Dude . . . please feel better soon - sending special love your way

That's 2 sick at your place! Hope you're drinking & eating enough -- you need a ready source of energy to fight the germies. (At the very least, your cats continue to offer comic relief by taking roof-strolls. I had a dog who did that.)

Ugh. Hope you're feeling better soon. Did you ever figure out who gave it to you (if anybody)?

Pneumonia is not contagious, but the predecessors - colds and flu - are catchy. You can pick up a cold from a door handle or a handshake.

So keep us in the loop, dear Jon. I should say you are more able to take care of yourself than Ed. He had pnbeumonia early in our relationship and might have succumbed if I hadn't moved in. (Terrible patient and I married him anyway.)

I should begin improvement any hour now. Total of 12 Augmentins have entered my system since the beginning. I don't feel much better yet. Having memory problems, too. Screws up the brain. Forgot that I had removed the studio's window screen when I took out the A/C last Oct. So when you called I went up to close it . Well, four cats had gone out the hole and onto the back kitchen roof. When I went up to go to bed I looked in the studio and there backlighted by the alley streetlight were the profiles of those four, out on the roof frantic to get inside! Satchel, Rosie, Doobie and Rinny. LOL.

Lightning woke me up @ 4:15 a.m. and I have yet to feed the cats. I have such a difficult time sleeping with the coughing and rib pain. Might as well try to stay awake.

I use VA. It is 125 miles away. I am afraid they would hospitalize me and I must be here for the cats and especially Hobbie. I have a physician I can rely on to call in a prescription whenever I need one. He is in PA. Other than that, medical costs beyond Medicare are beyond my ability to pay.

Medical costs are enormous. Just a visit to a physician costs 103 dollars
here. Glad you had help from a good Dr. and I am so glad you are better.
Hugs!

Geez! Those are tough times indeed. Did you go to the doc for your pneumonia?
I feel for you both.
