The 12th annual rummage sale to benefit the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society was held today in Delhi. It's the unofficial beginning of the yard sale season and all funds go directly to the shelter, which is no-kill, which makes it most worthy of support.
Some years are better than others for unique finds and this was one of the better years. I was burned a time or two on items that didn't work, but I considered just an additional donation so I didn't get bent over it. Somebody asked yesterday what I was looking for and the simple answer is that if I was looking for anything special I'd go to Wal-mart. The fun of a rummage sale is not knowing what to expect.
Donna left with a basket full of stuff--mostly stuff for the grandkids, I think. I came away with a selfie-stick which I wouldn't buy in a store and a few other useful items: a motion sensor light, a limp with a large clips that can attach under the hood of a vehicle to provide task lighting in our garage which isn't very well lighted, a potato slicing device that makes two sizes of fries which I used to make potato salad, a boombox type radio with an antenna and old style tuning dial that actually picks up the NPR station, a microwave popcorn maker, and a few other odds and ends. I was very satisfied with my finds!
In other news, the 4C Camp for Adults situation has been partially resolved although we'll be holding a one-day event this year instead of camp. I emailed a few other committee members and the consensus was that we were all pissed at the way the self-appointed leader cancelled camp and the January committee meeting. He apologized first thing which left little room for criticism and allowed the meeting to be productive. The person who volunteered to chair the committee to plan the one-day event hasn't scheduled a meeting yet, but I thing things will come together. There is still plenty of time.
I went to see my primary yesterday for a cortisone injection in the knee. I made the mistake of raking pinecones last weekend and couldn't sleep for two nights until I discovered that heat could dull the pain. I was supposed to be losing a pound a week since December before knee replacement surgery around this time. Not only didn't my diet work, but I actually gained a pound or two so I'm going back to the way I used to eat and cutting portions.
With the early spring we're having I wouldn't want to be laid up now. The daytime high the other day was 72 and most days have been warm and beautiful and I live to be outside in nice weather. So maybe surgery will take place in September.
I had a cortisone shot last October and the needle hit a bone spur on the way in. We're figuring that's the reason why the does wasn't effective. This time the needle went straight into the joint although the doc felt it rub against bone. It took a good ten seconds to empty the syringe and it feels good today without ibuprofen or anything else so I'm very hopeful that this dose will get me through the summer.
I could go into next winter without cutting any more wood since we burned so little this winter but I want to cut and split what's left so the grass can grow back. Last went was record cold and this winter record least snowfall with only 20 inches--unheard of!
I have a few other plans in the works including getting the truck into the college automotive lab. I'd only have to pay for parts, no labor. The emergency break needs work and the ABS sensors need to be cleaned or replaced.
Aside from all that, I'm just enjoying the early spring!!
Have a good one!
