Old or New ? the Battle Continues

Well I Just thought I would make a quick entrance and leave.
Although I am sure I will end up blabbing on randomly for a while, seems to be a great skill of mine.

So a few nights ago I happen to be driving around, looking and drooling over grand houses in Halifax. I noticed though something felt out of the place....
there was snow on the ground - check
was with someone I cared about - check
Listen to Christmas songs - check
Old Christmas lights - no check

You see most people (about 90%) made the big change to LED lights. I am not at all saying LED lights are bad , or ugly
but I sure do miss the old Christmas Lights.

The old lights had a certain colour to them, the reds were a bright rich red, the greens were actual pine tree green.

The new lights look strange to me, there is a weird blue hue to all of the lights.

But, I think I miss the Old Christmas times from the past in general and the lights are just a little thing in the whole picture.

I miss believing in Santa and being so excited the night before. I miss playing in the snow, and sledding down crazy hills. I miss making tunnels out of snow drifts and having my dog crawl through the tunnel with me. I miss making cookies with my mom and having icing everywhere else instead of on the cookie. I miss dad making a campfire in the park and we would sit there and roast marshmellows. I miss being able to just spend time with my parents and not in twenty other places at once. I miss friends who don't get bent out of shape because I cant go see them.

Before I get too mushy (lol) I have yet to get my parents, and brother a gift. Although since I am a college kid, I do not have much cash. Which means I shall make them each a gift. Which means I have a reason to make a mess on my bedroom floor. *Me with sparkles all over the floor and glue lathered on my hands with cat fur and paper stuck to them, paint on the floor, sparkles in my hair and random pieces of wrapping paper strewn about my room ....... Ahhh yes I am Tidy person*

Christmas isn't about the money you spent on people, which lights you had up, who's house you were at, which people you seen, how your house looks.

Christmas is about the memories, time spent with good friends and family who care about you and the delicious food shared.

Ah, Sarah. You are only 21 and you are nostalgic for your childhood already! Well, the things you mentioned are signiificant... Would that we could keep things as they were. How delightful would that be?

Well take those things you miss and think of them as memories. And add some new ones today. Just because our bodies get bigger doesn't mean we have to "grow-up"

see ... some things don't change. You are still making presents for your parents! You could be six again! Seriously, I am 57 and still making Christmas gifts, it helps me keep in touch with the real reason for the season ... family. I am no Christian but I so love the rituals and the family centered gatherings. Mind you, I prefer that it's not my family but someone elses. One too many years of Cousin Bobbie and Uncle Bill wanting all the little girls to "sit" on Santas lap if you get my drift.

I loved Halifax. I would love to visit when the holiday decorations are up.

Amen to friends and family. Even if everything else changes
we can still them. Merry Christmas.
