Pundits, Politics, and People

I've done my best to keep my blog free of politics and opinionated positions on issues. It is my goal to be friends with everyone here and be respectful. It's not that I don't have very strong opinions and beliefs. It's just that on a forum like this, the conversation seems to degenerate into personal attacks and insults in about ten seconds.
I am a conservative. You've probably figured that out by now. And I think I'm probably in the minority here. However, I will respectfully listen to (read) everyone's views and leave relevant comments.
PUNDITS are often the topic of conversation around the blogosphere. They get a bad rap because supposedly they have an agenda and blindly follow their current political hero. They are portrayed as biased and irrelevant many times. In my opinion, many of the bloggers who do this are doing the very same things as the pundits, only without the credentials.
POLITICS is a sensitive subject for many people as it is directly tied to the exercise of our rights and privileges and has a direct bearing on our economic and social well-being. However, politics is not the solution to society's ills. It is not the cure-all for your personal economic woes. It is not the means by which we will all live happy and prosperous lives. It is NOT a morality although it is directly tied to moral judgment. (Even if you claim to be "amoral", that in itself is a moral judgment.)
PEOPLE offend and irritate me when they assume that their political or moral position on a subject is superior to mine. I am not an idiot because I am a conservative. You are an idiot for not realizing that I, too, have very good, sound reasons and LOGICAL arguments for maintaining the principles and standards that I do. I AM NOT BLIND. I have a college education and continue to study and read. My brain is just as logical as the next guy's. I was raised in the same America with the same rights, privileges and responsibilities as the next guy. However, too often, those who do not agree with someone, instead of responding with an intelligent, rational rebuttal, will make some snide, ridiculous remark that does nothing to further the conversation. I read some blogs and leave shaking my head. What gets me is that much of the criticism and mocking hurled at the right equally applies to the left and vice versa.
So, this very well might be the end of my "code of silence". I sincerely hope I don't lose any friends here as a result, but really, are they friends if they suddenly turn vicious when they realize that I do not agree with their "obviously superior thought process"? I doubt it.

Well HELLOOOOOOOOOOO JEREMY!
I am sorry that you have withheld your political views thus far for fear of being ridiculed.
I personally am fairly liberal in my political stands, however, I am always open to frank and honest debates. I often remind people that because we do live in the greatest country on earth, we are allowed to disagree with one another an NOT be persecuted for our different opinions.
We can learn so much from each other if enter discussions with open minds and hearts. We limit ourselves when we close our minds.
Nice to finally meet you, Jeremy! Glad you're here!

I too have tried to steer clear of religion, politics, and highly devisive issues, some of which I actually do not have an opinion about (e.g. abortion, which has never affected my life and about which I feel no need to even consider a position). If that makes me shallow, so be it. I think my posts get a bit emotional only on two subjects: tobacco smoking, which I find both offensive and stupid, and George Bush, the same. Since I'm not a news junkie, there are probably lots of current issues about which I am blissfully unaware, but that's part of my ostrich mentality. I would say...don't let other's ill-considered words, including mine, goad you into deviating from your chosen blog approach.

Come on!! It's your right of speech to say "your thing". I am a dyed in the wool Republican - used to be just as firmly a Democrat. As my husband told his sons - When you get some money, you will turn Republican. Ha!! The Dems are too right wing for me. I am sorely afraid of Obama becoming President, but if he does, I will TRY to support him and give him honor as I would McClain.. MIght need a bit of God's help to do that though. Ha!! Just don't turn vicious - just state you opinion and let it to. Nena
