Odds and Ends

Some people hate this kind of post. If you do, click here for something factual.
We just had our annual convention. Several churches from our organization came and packed out our 120 capacity building with about 200 people. It was great! The invited speaker from Ohio chose not to come because of the security situation here in Mexico. Local pastors spoke in his place and people still went away saying it was one of the best conventions we've had in a long time. We provided breakfast, lunch and supper for the whole lot. That was executed flawlessly by our most competent cooks. Tasty food. Two cases of whole chickens seemed to meet the requirement.
It was shady most of the time since we are in our rainy season here. Not much rain Saturday and Sunday, so that was convenient.

We had visitors from the Pacific coast who brought a huge crate of mangos and passion fruit and star fruit. Jenn and I are very excited about that! I wanted to make mango jam, but Jenn doesn't seem that excited about it. We'll probably just give them away to people at church.
Some people in our church have invited some total strangers to come and visit us on Wednesday. I'm going to have to emphasize the fact that unless you plan to house and feed someone, you don't invite them to go stay at the pastor's expense. Or perhaps I'm the one who needs to lighten up and stop being so grouchy. I've never denied being a control-freak and that kind of situation drives people like me crazy.
Today, Jenn and I are taking a much deserved day off in Guadalajara. We brought our laptops, books and iPods and are currently seated in Starbucks  just enjoying the rainy day in one of Guadalajara's oldest and most popular plazas. Hooray for life! And Hooray for marriage. I'm loving mine.

I can't even remember what a fresh mango tastes like! I think I had one in Honduras--maybe. Good post.

Great post, it's as if we were there: the sights and sounds, the chicken dinner and the fresh fruit.

Glad you had such a great time. I've been in Guadalajara but didn't see much of it, just one afternoon. We've just had our mango festival -- it's called Mangomania. Ed and I don't go. We just get mangos from the tree next door that we used to own before we sold that house and bought the one we are in now.
