Keep the Change

One change I'm having trouble living with is the fact that I, a hard working, intelligent and dependable, debt-free American cannot obtain low-interest refinancing for the repossessed home I'm rehabilitating. It used to be much easier to get a loan. Now, it has been practically impossible for someone like myself with an excellent credit score to get a loan.
In my opinion, if America has to suffer through tough economic times, our government should tighten its belt as well. That means no increased debt ceiling and a major cut in spending. Raising taxes will only serve to further stifle an already suffering economy. Jeri's article on Medicare only strengthens my position that Obamacare is a bad idea. With other avenues and approaches available, handing health care over to government was an option of last resort, not first recourse.
In brighter news, the baby is only four or five weeks away! I cut down two trees on Monday, quite a sense of accomplishment and opened up our already too small yard a bit.
I'm lovin' those DIY shows that demonstrate how to remodel and redesign without spending a fortune. They're giving Jenn and me ideas for our house. Who knew you could make a counter top out of concrete or recycled glass?

All the points you made, key to the Republican philosophy, are spurious. Republicans want to balance the budget on the backs of the middle class and poor while encouraging tax breaks for the wealthy who are NOT paying their fair share. How could you not know this? I'm flabbergasted. The Republican argument is that tax breaks lead to jobs -- THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED. Rich corporations DO NOT create jobs, they buy another yacht. As for your loan, you'll probably get it. You have to establish a credit history. People who have paid without borrowing have a tougher time.

PS: I'm really not for tax breaks for the rich. I wish we had a set rate for everyone, period, and a much simpler tax code. It's time to let some of the breaks expire AND cut spending AND deregulate. But what do I know? Supposedly, I'm one of the ignorant, middle-class Americans who need to be told what to believe by my government.

Even more flabbergasting is that the President and his ilk want to continue to spend, spend, spend when our country is on the verge of bankruptcy. Any fool knows that that position is unsustainable. I also disagree that tax breaks never created jobs. Reaganomics worked for America. I shake my head in wonder at the people who say it didn't. I really liked jondude's comment about Clinton's remark. It makes more sense than ANYTHING coming out of Washington these days.
As for the loan, Jeri gave me the number of someone who is good at getting it done. I'm going to call him today if at all possible. Meanwhile, we'll hobble along making payments on our LOC and credit card. It's just that consolidating the two at a lower rate would be really sweet.

Now I will worry about your getting a loan. Phyllis knows a finance guy
that works miracles. I will ask her about him and let you know. I love
medicare but the abuses need to be stopped. These people that call
seniors trying to recruit health services must be stopped.

We're going to try some other places as soon as we get back from Missouri. I'm willing to talk to your friend.

The other day Pres. Clinton spoke at some conference and said that to either raise taxes OR cut spending (at its current levels) during a recession was foolhardy. Both sides of the debate are wrong. He said it was important to get through the bad economic times first, and once the economy was going "great guns" to effect those changes that will be required.

Actually, that sounds like good advice. He could get it right on occasion. We had a surplus when he left office.

Not surprisingly, I disagree with your opinion about the debt ceiling, as well as national healthcare (which hasn't kicked in yet). I do agree with you having a new addition to your family in about a month!!! Wonderful.

Are your Hondurans coming home for Christmas? Convince them to move back already.

To me, the best thing about those home improvement shows is where they show you what can go wrong.

Aren't they interesting or am I weird?
