USA (Last Episode)

From Ft. Myers beach we went to Key Largo. The weather was still great, we arrived before check-in time so we had to stay at the pool for a while. Well not a bad thing to do. I must admit that, 1 day key Largo is enough. There was not much to do, when you aren't a diver or snorkeler. We enjoyed our stay at the pool and had a good dinner. Specially for Martin: we ate heckfish. I still don't know what it is but it tasted delicious. I have seen a pic of a swimming heckfish but that's all. I cant find a Dutch translation for it.
Next day we drove to Key West. When we left Key Largo it started raining, but the sun came on time. We stayed at the doubletree hotel ( family of the Hilton group) and the room was available when we arrived (quite early).
The afternoon we spent in the centre of Key West. Off course visited the mostsouthern point. We walked a lot through the shopping street, ate Italian ice ( again) and finally left for the hotel again to refresh a bit at the pool, cause the temperature and the humidity-level was high. At night we took the hotel shuttle to the harbor for a good dinner. I ate a very simple thing: fish and chips. Simple but very tasteful.
We drove to Ft. Lauderdale the next day. The hotel wasnt the best we had these weeks I must admit. After complaining about not having a bathroom door the manager gave us another room with ocean view so.... it gave us a bit better feeling. We had planned for a shopping day (it was already 3 pm) so we drove to sawgrassmills, us was told the biggest and best shopping mall in Florida. Well it was.....! We bought some nice things, ate at the cheesecake factory (Why do they serve such big portions, almost all customers received the famous doggie bag, why not serving smaller portions.....). The food (pasta I had chosen) was of good quality.
Next day a water taxi showed us the canals of Ft. Lauderdale. It was, like the day before, a rainy day again. Pity, some sun would have made it so much nicer lol. We saw a lot of very nice houses (if u can call it hoses lol) and the captain told us some nice stories about the famous people living in this area. The day flew bye (and again a visit to the cheesecake factory for some nice cakes ( I had Dutch apple lol)). Pity I wasnt able to bring a visit to Martin. Felt weird calling him while I was so close to him. Later, after a nice dinner in an Irish pub, we made (in our room) preparations for our final destination for the next 3 days: Miami beach.
These last days were meant for some relaxing and that's exactly what we did. A beach day (very expensive btw cause we had to pay 35 dollar for 2 beds and a parasol, in my country just 8 euro lol). We shopped to buy souvenirs and had some great dinners.
The Hotel (Marseilles) was build in the famous art deco style, like the whole area was build in. Very nice to experience that. Lincoln avenue was great for shopping, so we didnt fel bored for a minute. It was a good end of a great holiday. Almost 4 weeks in the USA ended with our flight back to Amsterdam. Cause of the time difference we felt a bit weird off course but one day later all was as usual again.

Your on a family vacation so it can be difficult to visit people. I have several friends on the Big Island and have missed them on most of my trips there cause I am busy or with family!

Thanks for coming to visit some of our country. I hope you'll come out west some time. You'd feel at home in Wyoming where the wind blows a lot, but they don't have quaint old windmills like Holland, just recently have built wind farms with giant turbines.

One of the folks I work with loves Key West. In fact, he would love to move there. I think he likes the laidback, relaxing lifestyle. From what it sounds like, there really is not much to see. It is meant more to be a very relaxing place.
