Last Part

Final part of my holiday posts ( sorry I am not such a good writer lol). We stayed in Croatia for 2 weeks and made the decision there that we would visit my sister in France on our way home.
The weather in Croatia was perfect. Temperature fine but not too hot. Really nice sunbathing water. This vacation we cooked several time ourselves with the so-called "skottelbraai" . Its a device you see at all Dutch campers lol. Originally its from South Africa and it looks a bit like a barbecue on gas.

From internet we already had searched for easy but nice menu's and we really enjoyed them.
The last Friday on the campsite we already started to clean up a bit so that, when we were at home again, things could be put away immediatly and not need to be cleaned again.
On the campsite we met some Dutch people from our hometown ( actually a pupil of my wife's class lol) and we spend the last night together with them enjoying some nice glasses of red wine and rose. They also would leave the next day and they were intending to visit Venice in Italy.

Saturday it was time to leave Croatia again. We packed up things, removed the tent from our caravan, cleaned up the last things and left round 1 PM. We left in the afternoon to avoid a long queue crossing the border to Slovenia. Well after we drove 10 minutes we already were driving at the end of a long queue direction border. We drove slowly and it took us about 90 minutes to drive 50 kilometers (bit more then 30 miles).
Once in Slovenia it also was very busy. No highway available towards Italy so it took again longer then planned.
We arrived in Italy round 3.30 PM and we scheduled to drive till Verona, well cause of queues we ended in a town called Vicenza were we have stayed the night. There we drove to a little restaurant and had such a marvelous dinner mmmmmmmm ( Martin you really would have liked the home-made pasta as en entry, the terrific pepper steak and the delicious desert of home made strawberry ice).
The temperature was very high so it was a difficult night (didnt sleep easy cause of the heath).
Sunday we drove along through Italy towards the Mont Blanc tunnel where we would pas the border to France. A very nice route we had chosen I must admit and watching the Mont-Blanc was spectacular.
Once in France we arrived after 2 hours on my sisters campsite. We spent 2 nice days there and made our way home on Tuesday. Arrival at 6 PM and, after meeting the kids again, we decided to end our vacation with a dinner out with kids.
We had a great time!

Btw the next day police at the door. We parked the caravan in front of our house on the trottoir (it didn't gave problems to pedestrians btw). We were obliged to take it away, so that didn't make the cleaning easy. Rules are rules the policeman said... OOh I don't like that officer, I bet he doesn't have anything to say at home so .....

We have spent about 24 days in a very relaxing way. Over viewing all I can say I liked this vacation very much. It also felt good i was able to call Martin just on time to wish him the best for his surgery. He kept my mind rather busy I must admit. Another thing what kept me busy was my Serbian friend (Shirkan here). It felt good I was able to txt him now and then but felt rather emotional after I heard the decision that he and his bf definitely split up. He is a great guy and just hope he will manage.

Well I will try to add some more pics on my gallery and catch you all soon again (btw it feels good to be back and read all your things again from now on)

The entire trip sounds like it was so wonderful and memorable. To be able to travel through different countries like that, making stops along the way, sounds exciting and so foreign to me because, as you know, as we drive and drive here we only cross state lines and stay right within our own country. Fortunately for me, and I have made this trip a few times, we are only 8 hours from the Canadian border, so visits to another country are possible for me even when driving. Otherwise, it takes flying to get outside of the country because things south of our border are pretty much too far for us unless we had extended vacations like you do. I look forward to checking out your new pictures when they get added...oh, they might have been added by now, so let me go check out your gallery and see.

Good travelogue. It's been 40 years since I was in Germany, Austria, France, etc. Bet it's changed--more traffic, pollution, growth.

Sounds great, Robin. Made me jealous. We have had some great holidays in that area -- mainly on the Istrian peninsular, especially Rovinj.
thanks for filling us in. Back to work soon?
