Yuma, Iceland, Another Kiss, World Cup, Etc.

Pride parades begin and one good
reason to watch the World Cup

By James Withers , contributing editor, 365Gay Blog 11:07am EDT

  • Yuma mayor issues faux apology . Al Krieger , the mayor of Yuma, Arizona,
offered a feeble retraction. After mocking gay soldiers at a Memorial
Day celebration, the mayor gave the following mea culpa: “As mayor I
must respect the lifestyle choices of others, no matter how disagreeable
they are with my personal beliefs or my personal moral standards.”
Notice how he doesn’t even deal with the actual bravery of gay soldiers?
Well of course he can’t do that. Can’t be brave and “lacy-drawered.”

  • What’s
not to love about Iceland ?
Sure the country’s volcanoes can tie
the tongue, but its parliament unanimously legalized gay marriage. Hard
to mock that. Those of you who have not made vacation plans, better get
    over to Reykjavík.

  • More
details on Steven Monjeza, and his ex-partner Tiwonge Chimbalanga
    .
Last week Monjeza announced he was forced into a
relationship with Chimbalanga, never loved her, and is now enjoying a
blissful married life with another. Some new details
    about Monjeza’s life and recent
bride. All of it is sad and depressing.

  • Sean Hayes and Kristin
    Chenoweth
make out at the Tonys . Hayes hosted the Tony
Awards last night; he opened the show with a big sloppy kiss with his
“Promises, Promises” co-star Kristin Chenoweth. Newsweek reporter Ramin Setoodeh probably blew a gasket. Glad
to see Viola Davis got a statue for her performance
in Fences . Sister girl can act.

  • Pittsburgh and Los Angeles do
    pride
. Both cities had pride celebrations this weekend. Any stories
to share? Come on Angel . I know you have at least one!

  • You
    watching the World Cup
    ? On
Saturday a local bar was overflowing with people watching the match
between England and her American cousins.  When it comes to football,
all I care about is Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo (look at his
    statement about gay marriage ).
    Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooal!

  • Mohamed
Mahmood Alessa has an anti-gay past
    . Apparently one of New
Jersey’s suspected terrorists, Mohamed Mahmood Alessa , has a history of
wanting to mutilate gays. Don’t expect any future family reunions with
his mother because she is throwing him under the bus. “Anything makes
him angry. But he’s not a terrorist, he’s a stupid kid,” said Nadia Alessa .

  • Mixed
signals for gay and lesbian soldeirs
. As the military looks at
what to do with DADT , gay troops are caught in the middle.
Still have to hide and can be outed. Yet there are unspoken messages
from superiors showing tolerance. Crazy. Messy. Unfair. But this is the
way the game is played. Gay soldiers:  keep your heads down and hold on.
If outed, please contact the Servicemembers Legal
    Defense Network
