John and I went to the Thanksgiving buffet at the Isle of Capri
casino at the Pompano racetrack.
This year John, Allen
and I went to the Isle Casino for their Thanksgiving buffet--there were some
differences--2008 is in black type and 2009 in red ink!!
The first big difference was the service--having been a
server for many years I am, usually, tolerant of less than great or good service
but when you serve coffee without a spoon and/or sugar or sugar substitute,
things get a little hairy. Then having to ask for refills of coffee, water and
soda I start getting bugged. Top it off with Allen,accidentally, spilling his
glass of soda and no one coming to help clean it up or giving us something to
wipe it up and then taking the wet napkins and not replacing them I start to
boil! I know it's a holiday and it's busy and it's a buffet but if you aren't
able to serve your station then give a table or two away or ask for
help!
The buffet was
$12.99 including soft drink plus tax---this year it was $14.95 plus
tax
For a main course you could have turkey, ham,
lamb and steak. The menu was basically the same.
I won't go into it but
I had dental problems so I more or less had to
eat 'soft' food consequently I had stuffing, mashed potatoes, linguini with clam sauce and, oh yes, 2
flavors of ice cream, plus soft ice cream plus pecan pie, a jelly roll, chocolate cake, apple cobbler with
whipped cream and a few other 'soft' items.
There were at
least 14 desserts including soft and hard ice creams, pies, cookies, cobbler and
cakes not to forget chocolate covered strawberries (not this
year). Also you could have, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, stuffing,
gravy, salmon, steak and peppers, broccoli robe, salad bar, 6 different kinds of
pizzas, soups, 3 kinds of pasta plus a few other items.
I certainly
had my fill and no ands, ifs or butts I go on my diet tomorrow!!!Yep, again this
year!
Oh, did I
mention we both lost at the slots?!?!?
BIG CHANGE--I
PUT $10 IN THE SLOTS--WON $9.40 AND WALKED AWAY--JOHN PUT IN $5 AND WON $6 AND
WE LEFT.
I won't get into the
hassle I had with the valet parkers who lost my temporary parking permit for Jill's car at Gateway--I think it was
the only time I have ever stiffed a person working for
tips!!!
WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR--OR THIS
CHRISTMAS!!!
