Why would someone who claims NOT to be homophobic call a gay person the 'F' word?
Why would someone who professes to love women call them all the 'B" word?
Why would someone who says they are not racist call a Black person the 'N' word??
I have always been taught that ignorant people use curse/slang words.
This has nothing to do with being politically correct but of disrespecting people and a lack of knowledge.
To most nongay people the word 'queen' is interchangeable with with gay when actually they mean two completely different things.
Some
people rationalize that Blacks call each other the 'N' word or women
refer to each other using the 'B' word or gays will direct the 'F' word
at each other. They are showing the same disrespect towards each other
that others show them.
Why
does, mainly, a Republican conservative us the word 'liberal' as a
curse word and usually adds 'commie, queer'? Do they really think it
helps their 'argument? Debate?
I have gone through most of my life NOT using derogatory
words, can't recall ever using negative slang towards anyone or in
anger. I was brought up in a family where 'banana oil' (don't ask) were
the strongest curse words used. I lived in a Jewish neighborhood where
put downs of others in the neighborhood, Italians, Catholics, Blacks,
etc., wasn't heard--at least not in public.
We know it is not only lower class, uneducated, rednecks, etc., that use these words but a lot of bloggers do. Is it because they can hide? Do they feel safe in calling people names behind an alias?
Are
they just cowards? Or do they really not know any better? Is this who
they really are? Do they really disrespect someone without even knowing
them, who they are? Do they even think of the hurt/pain they might be
causing? Do they care? Do they practice a religion that tellsthem to disregard people and/or their feelings?
Do
they really believe that, 'names will never harm me'? Do they see
themselves as being 'gay friendly' and yet not think there is anything
wrong when a teenager, maybe theirs, says, 'That's so gay'? Do they
really believe that 'some of my best friends are---" (you fill in the
blank) and that makes it okay?
What
happened to being Ladies and Gentlemen? What happened to having
discussions without getting into 'street' language? Whatever happened
to not brushing a group of people all with one stroke because of one?
Why are we so rude to each other let alone people we don't know? What happened to 'thank you', 'please' and 'you are welcome'?
Whatever happened to respect?
