Sometimes
you do the right thing and you have to accept that you did the right
thing without a payoff. Allen wanted to see New Moon and since we
usually go to see what I want to see, and there weren't any new
pictures we both wanted to see, so we went to see it. I hadn'tparticularly liked the first movie--in fact I remember very little about it--and I didn't expect to like this one. I wasn't disappointed.
When
a movie has hunk after hunk and I can only yawn you know something is
wrong. The two major hunks--the male leads--are not major leading men
no matter what all the articles about them say. Taylor Lautner may have a 6 pack stomach, pecs from here to there and bulging muscles
wherever you look but the face and acting distract from what those
aspects present. Robert Pattinson is not the most substantial man to be a vampire and is very lacking in
the acting department though I was impressed with one scene that didn't
require acting.
I'm sorry bit I
don't see Kristen Stewart as the point in a triangle between her and
the two men. She seems to be a pale imitation of Mary Masterson and
brings no personality to the role of Bella the focus of the film/saga.
I
admit up front that I am not into vampires (except "True Blood") or men
turning into giant werewolves or that whole genre and this series
certainly doesn't help. The film incorporates Romeo & Juliet
without the love and passion and doesn't follow through making for
another major disappointment.
Nothing
really happens in this film and the special effects doesn't hide that
fact. The Oregon scenery is absolutely beautiful as are the Italian
scenes but a film that is more than 2 hours needs more than scenery.
Michael
Sheen comes through with a winning performance but the big surprise to
me was Dakota Fanning whom I didn't even recognize and has really grown
up--now seeing her play Bella would have been a treat.
I did my good deed but I think Allen will be seeing the third, fourth, fifth, etc., (hey, this sequel broke records so don't think there won't be many sequels each getting worse) films by himself!!
