I am glad Michael Sheen showed enough dignity to refuse the Best Supporting
Actor spot instead of Best Actor--now if only Philip Seymour Hoffman had done
the same--sorry, he was the male lead in "Doubt"--and he already has an
Oscar.
Along these lines Kate Winslet was put in the right category for "The Reader"
as the lead unlike the Golden Globes who put her in supporting actress
category.
I have not see "The Wrestler" or "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and
not really that interested in seeing them nor have I seen "The Visitor" which I
do want to see BUT I am pulling for Penn as he was fantastic.
I don't feel comfortable with Ledger getting the nomination--yes, he was good
but not that good (like Leo in Revolutionary Road). I thought Josh Brolin was
excellent in "Milk" and he has done outstanding jobs in his last 4 movies so I
hate to see a dead man win just because he is dead and not because he gave the
best performance. Actually Michael Shannon should win for Revolutionary
Road--without him the film wouldn't be as good.
Though I liked Slumdog Millionaire I was more impressed with Milk and The
Reader--I will be seeing Frost/Nixon tomorrow but right now I'm rooting for Milk
though I won't be disappointed if The Reader wins which is a much better picture
than is being perceived by the public.
My picks for winners are red starred--in a couple of cases I am looking for a
tie or don't care which one wins as long as one of them does!!!
