Allen felt this movie, "Sunshine Cleaning" was one that finally told
a story with a beginning, middle and end while I felt it was a typical
independent film. Yes, there was a story, good acting, adequate
directing and one or two 'artsy' shots but all in all not a bad film
but very remindful of others, especially another film with Sunshine in the title, "Little
Miss Sunshine". There is the cute kid, the smart, has all the answers,
loves his family, grandfather played by Alan Arkin as he played, and won an Oscar for the same role in, Little Miss Sunshine and lets not forget the van which was a Volkswagen in the latter film.
Amy
Adams and Emily Blunt play sisters who go into the business of cleaning
up crime scenes with the latter being a little more oddball than the
former. Amy is a single mother who is having an affair with the married
man who was her boyfriend when they were in high school and, if I am
right, is the father of her son.
What is behind the sister's
problem, what caused it and their problems, and why they haven't grown
up is fairly obvious from the start and not really that dramatic and/or
effective when it comes out.
The plot, and the director, seem to be reaching for all sorts of genres from word comedy to slapstick to drama to melodrama and everything in between.
I enjoyed the movie but it is not one I would/can recommend or would see again.
By
the way I learned something new but keeping my promise to follow
Peter's advice I won't talk about it this week--remind me to discuss
next week! LOL
