Get ready for another cold blast over weekend
It’s probably not going to be a great weekend for doing stuff outdoors,
thanks to the approaching cold front.
In addition to being chilly, Saturday also should be mostly cloudy with a
good chance of rain. The forecast calls for afternoon highs in the 40s and
evening lows in the low to mid 30s.
Far inland areas and sections of Palm Beach County might see freezing
temperatures on Saturday night.
Sunday should be mostly sunny but still cold. The forecast calls for highs in
the mid 50s and lows in the mid to upper 30s.
Both days also should be breezy with gusts up to 25 mph.
Cold snap is longest in more than two decades

If it seems we’ve been shivering for an unusually long time – we have.
The National Weather Service confirms this cold snap is the longest
in more than 20 years.
Low temperatures have remained below 50 degrees throughout South Florida
since Jan. 2, and high temperatures have failed to exceed 65 degrees.
That means we’ve seen six straight days of extreme cold, at least by South
Florida standards.
The last time that happened was in December 1989, when West Palm Beach
recorded six days of abnormal cold. The same month, Miami and Fort Lauderdale
saw five days of frigid weather.
More indicators of just how unusual the
current cold snap is:
West Palm Beach has seen four consecutive days with low temperatures under 40
degrees, the most since December 1989.
More impressive, West Palm has failed to reach 60 degrees for three days.
That ties a record for the longest streak of sub-60-degree weather since January
1997 as well as January 1977 (the month it snowed in South Florida).
And for the second day in a row, West Palm Beach saw record cold, as the
mercury dropped to 37 degrees this morning; the previous record for this date
was 38 degrees, set in 1903.
