FROM THE LEFT GINO, JOHN, ALLEN
We
had just gotten out of the movies--it was 3:30--too late for lunch--too
early for dinner--I suggested a new place that none of us had been
where the choice was enough so that one could eat as light or as heavy
as one wanted.
Scruby's is a new chain with 3 locations in South Florida. They are running ads
all over the place with all sorts of deals. As it so happened one of
their specials was "Full menu is 1/2 price" between 3-5 PM. The time
was right and the price couldn't be that bad so we decided to go to Scruby's. (It would be called 'earlybird' normally LOL)
The place looked and felt new with blond woods all over. They have a big to go counter and it seemed to be steadily busy the whole time we were there.
I ordered one of the rib combinations consisting of: 1/4 BBQ chicken, 1/2 rack of baby back ribs, about 4 ounces of sliced pork, a paper cup of Cole
slaw, a small cup of baked beans, 2 small sweet potatoes, garlic toast
and flavored butter. It was all served on one plate. There was a roll
of paper towels and 3 different containers ofBBQ sauce. Everything tasted okay but nothing was outstanding and with so many BBQ rib places in South Florida they will have to keep on having the specials even in 'season' if we have one.
What I did find annoying was the dismissal
of a suggestion that I had that would better the server's tips but she
sort of sloughed it off instead of calling the manager over or offering
me a number to gethold of the owner(s).
Our
check came to $33 plus change after the 50% off which means the tip
should have been based on what it would have cost--$66 plus change--but
the way they deducted the 50% off each individual item defeated the
purpose as most customers would have tipped on what the final total was
instead of adding up the original charges. With the computers, which
would have made it very easy, there could have been a line saying
something to the effect, "The total check would have been $66 before
you got the special price of 50% off. Please base your tip on that."
In any case WE did tip on the 'would have been' price.
The
food was worth the price of $8+ but not at $16+. Also at the higher
price I would expect more than everything be piled onto one plate.
