me, I’m gay. I know what I am doing this weekend. Our friends at Towleroad are promoting the Global Gay
Kiss-In happening this weekend (and Monday) all over the world. The
kiss-in is being held this weekend to mark Monday’s International Day
Against Homophobia (IDAHO). Among the cities participating in the U.S.
are San Francisco , Austin , Chicago and New York City (2 days, Sunday and Monday ). Check the website to see if your city is participating.

It’s just a joke. A California Republican congressional
candidate, Brad Goehring “joked” about shooting
liberals on his Facebook page. “If I could issue hunting permits, I
would officially declare today opening day for liberals. The season
would extend through November 2 and have no limits on how many taken as
we desperately need to “thin” the herd.”
Boy, that’s funny.
Rather
than finding common ground in a district that is split equally between
Democrats and Republicans why don’t you just take out those voters that
disagree with you. He later released a response to the uproar over his
statement. “I intended to include the wording ‘we would use votes and
not bullets’ (but) hit the share button by accident before I finished
and decided to leave it, thinking it would not be taken in a literal
sense. I’m sorry if I confused anyone.” I am laughing my a@@ off,
douche.

Suffer the children. It seems like not a week goes by without
another story about intolerance involving the Catholic Church. Following
in the footsteps of a Boulder Catholic school , a Massachusetts
Catholic school has rescinded the admission of a boy because he has two
mommys. The boy was set to attend St. Paul Elementary School in Hingham this
fall. The parents of the boy filled out the application paperwork
honestly, listing both of their names under parents.
All was going
along as planned, deposit paid and uniform order forms in hand when one
of the mothers received a call from the principal and parish priest of
the school.
The mother was informed that her relationship “was in
discord with the teachings of the Catholic Church,” and that the
“teachers wouldn’t be prepared to answer questions her son might have
because the school’s teachings about marriage conflict with what he sees
in his family.”
This is a hard one for me, because I am all for
fighting the Catholic Church’s attacks on the GLBT community. Can
someone answer me why do some GLBT parents insist on enrolling their
children in schools (or churches for that matter) that actively hate us?

• More race baiting. The sunny state of Arizon a hasn’t been shamed, yet. Following
the passage of the notorious “show me your papers” law now it’s against
the law to have ethnic studies in elementary or secondary schools. The
law states that schools are forbidden to teach classes that are
“designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group” and
advocate “the overthrow of the United States government” or “resentment
toward a race or class of people.”
These bills are always worded
in ways that seem somewhat reasonable but always hide the racist
intentions. I want to see the class syllabuses currently taught in
Arizona that made this law necessary. It just seems like an excuse to
clog up the courts with bogus lawsuits claiming that legitimate ethnic
studies courses breed resentment of white people.

• 3 down 512 to go. In Minnesota a bill guaranteeing that same-sex
couples can make end-of-live decisions and file wrongful death suits
just needs Governor Pawlenty’s signature. The group Project 515,
whose name represents the number of Minnesota laws that discriminate
against couples unable to legally marry, has been lobbying the state one
law at a time. Luckily the state Senate passed a version of the bill
last year and after a short conference on the bill it will be passed on
to the governor. Who knows what will happen next – Pawlenty has been
moving towards the right side of the political spectrum, anticipating a
presidential run in 2012.
There may be hope – Pawlenty signed a
bill last year protecting the homes of same-sex partners from being sold
to pay for state medical bills.
Update: It looks like Pawlenty is
more concerned with his potential presidential campaign than his constituents.
THe governor has stated that he will veto the bill. Sickening.

Alan Sorkin jumps into mess. By now you have all heard about
about Ramin Setoodeh ’s Newsweek story “Straight
Jacket” . In the article he says that straight actors can
easily play gay but its not so true for gay actors playing straight.
Setoodeh uses Sean Hayes performance in the Broadway production
of “Promises,
Promises” as an example.
Though the double standard is a
good conversation to have, Setoodeh has opened up a firestorm. Hayes’
Broadway co-star Kristin ChenowethGlee has called for a boycott of Newsweek as
an actor on the show, Jonathan Groff , was also called out (so
to speak) and openly gay actor Brian Batt spoke out, as well. issued an online rebuttal
and the creator of
Now
former the “West Wing” writer/creator, Aaron Sorkin , has jumped in with his take.
Sorkin feels that the REAL problem is that audiences have been
“reconditioned to be entertained by the most private areas of other
people’s lives” and not the work that these people do. It’s a very
interesting hypothesis.
I personally think that these discussions
should focus on what society really feels about the full range of
masculine and feminine characteristics and how that pertains to
assumptions of peoples sexuality.

• Sing out Louise. A 6th grade singer (Michael
Chance ) has been thrust into the spotlight because of his You Tube
video covering Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi . We all have seen it and
love, love, LOVE this talented boy. Ellen Degeneres loves him,
too!
Earlier this week Ellen had the young singing sensation on
her show and surprised him with a phone call from his idol, Gaga. Too
cute!
