It being Gino's birthday on Thursday, as per our ritual, I took him out for dinner. He picked the Primavera
restaurant that I had been to once before, sometime around 2004. He had
been there quite a few times as the Italian-American club he belongs to
meets there once a month during 'season' and he enjoyed the food.
The restaurant, though formerly laid out, has a warm feeling about it, which is greatly enhanced by the staff. Brandon served us very competently with some warm banter that added to the dining experience.
I had a $25
restaurant.com certificate, (which I had paid $3 for) and even though
they were running a 'buy 1, get 1 free' special, it being one of the
worst months of the year in South Florida, along with the general poor
shape of the economy, like most restaurants now are offering 'specials'.
The bottom line is that either using the certificate or doing the
special the price would have been the same.
Gino
ordered the rolled veal melanzana which came served on a light sauce
and a side of fresh farm vegetables ($21.95) which he really enjoyed and
iced tea ($2.50). I had the seafood risotto in a white sauce which came
with mussels, jumbo shrimps, sea scallops and calamari ($23). While the
seafood was fine unfortunately the risotto was too heavy, clumped and
just thrown on the plate almost covering all the seafood and mixed in
the shells of the mussels.
The rolls served with the meal would have been much better if they had been heated.
With the tax, and a 20% tip added, the check came to $60.36 so minus the $25 certificate the dinner cost me $38.36. The service and ambiance of the Primavera restaurant was certainly worth the latter price but if you include the food it wasn't worth the former total.
We arrived around 7 PM and there was another deuce
in the restaurant and while we were there a party of 4 came in. Just as
we were leaving a party of 3 was entering and it turned out I knew
them.
It might be another 6 years before I go there again, if it is still open in 2016.
