MN pol takes a porn star to dinner
If you are a
conservative Republican, getting prepared for a primary run, it might
not be a good idea to have a story about having dinner with a gay porn
star. Paul Koering is a Minnesota state senator
with the standard Republican positions. Against abortion and lover of
gun rights. He also has a crush on porn star Brandon Wilde.
Wilde
is from Minnesota–clearly I need to move there; he and the senator
started out as Facebook friends. They met at a gay pride picnic—Koering
has been out since 2005—and that is where dinner plans were made.
Give
Koering credit. Unlike some conservative brethren (how are things
shaking Mr. Rekers ?) when he was asked about the
evening of steak meals there was no flinching.
“I don’t see
anything wrong with going out with him. Do I think that being a porn
star is the best thing? No. But that’s his choice. I think he’s a nice
guy.”
He’s right of course. Dinner is no big deal, but I’m
willing to bet some of his constituents might have a problem with it.
Wilde
describes the date as slightly weird and got the sense the senator
wanted more than a meal. When the conversation turned to Wilde’s day
job, the senator turned disapproving.
“He asked me at dinner why I
was doing porn, like he was disappointed. He gave me this look like he
thought I was better than all of that.”
That is a typical gay male
response to porn. For those who watch it, we will gladly get off on the
stuff, dream of domestic bliss with the thespians (or at least an
evening of carnal delights), but wonder, with snobby disdain, why anyone
would actually do such a nasty job. Oh, the twists and turns of sexual
shame.
Looks like there might be second date. Can’t wait to hear
the details about that one!
Watercooler: Mass. mayor comes out;
& Ideas
Massachusetts Mayor comes out. Cambridge mayor
David Maher came out Saturday at the city’s annual Pride brunch, the Cambridge Chronicle reported.
In a speech
honoring the movement toward equality for the LGBT community , the
51-year-old announced that he is gay.
Maher is the third openly gay mayor in a
row for the city.
What a trend!

Forget
burning ties, Representative Aaron Shock (R-IL) is burning belts.
This weekend, Gawker posted a
photo of the politician wearing a metallic blue belt that they said was
“jamming up the gay staff listserve.”
Since then, Shock has had an interesting
reaction to the photo.
“Never thought a pic of me w/ my shirt on
would go viral. Learned my lesson and burned the belt,” he tweeted.
Viral? Way to
have a sense of humor!

They’re
NOT lovin’ it. Last week, I mentioned the insanely hilarious American spoof of the gay McDonald’s ad , which aired on French TV. This
week, I have some bad news.
McDonald’s executive, Don Thompson
announced Sunday that the French TV commercial would not run in the United States.
Thompson suggested that the ad featuring a gay teen would not run due to
different “cultural norms.”
“We [talk] about things that may have
an implication in one part of the world and may be the cultural norm in
another part of the world. And those are things that, yes, we’re going
to learn from. But, you’re right, that commercial won’t show in the
United States,” he told the Chicago Tribune .
Lame, I know. But, you can

American Idol veteran released the video to his new single, “If I
Had You” Monday. It’s a foresty mystery dancestravaganza. Stange, I
know, but hawt!
Soccer and Pride. What
a mix! Soccer star, Freddie Ljungberg is reportedly proud of rumors
that he is gay.
“There’s been a gay rumor for a long time. I don’t
mind at all. I am proud of that,” the player told The New York Times Magazine .
Ljungberg, who
declined to answer questions on his own sexuality, said he considers
rumors about his sexual orientation a “compliment.”
