Withers: NH pol recants her lies

Here
is the thing that bothers me about fundies. I have no issue if they get
all leery about gays and lesbians (I have the same feeling about Yankee
fans); however, they must give up their penchant for creative talking
on gay topics.

Take New Hampshire state Rep. Nancy Elliott . Last week when the Judiciary Committee was looking at a bill that would repeal the state’s same sex marriage law (Granite State pols put the kibosh on those efforts), Elliott said two things. She
claimed fifth graders were being taught how to get their sex on, and
described anal sex in a way that made it clear she had no idea what she was yapping about.

Elliott had to recant her charge yesterday.
“I
would like to apologize to the Judiciary Committee, the Nashua public
schools and its employees and the speaker as well as anyone else
affected by what I said,’’ Elliott said in a prepared statement “I will
try much harder in the future to verify fully my statement.”

Oh
wait, it gets better. Lying girl said this sex primer was going on in
Nashua’s public schools. Do you think she picked up the phone and
called the school district? What about calling the cops?  Do you even
need an answer?

And while we are on the topic on people who are
forgetful with the truth, Maggie Gallagher and Andrew Sullivan  went at
it yesterday at a Cato Institute panel. Gallagher said her organization, the National Organization for
Marriage, had out gay members working for it. When Sullivan pressed for
their names, she clammed up. Gays and lesbians working for NOM?!
Really!? Ms. Gallagher here is a challenge. 365Gay wants to interview
these folk.  Give us a call and lets set it up.

UK reporter who said he killed sick lover on bail

(London)
Police released a veteran British TV reporter on bail Thursday after he
was arrested and questioned about claims he made on the air that he
killed his lover who was dying of AIDS.

Ray
Gosling drew media – and police – attention this week when he revealed
on a BBC TV documentary that he used a pillow to smother his dying
lover in his hospital bed to end his suffering. He did not give the
name of the man, or say where or when the incident took place.

The
70-year-old journalist was released on bail from a police station in
Nottingham after he was questioned on suspicion of murder for a day and
a half, his lawyer Digby Johnson said.

Gosling said during the TV
show that he and the unidentified man had made a pact on what to do
should the pain of the AIDS victim become intolerable and nothing more
could be done. Gosling said he believed he had made the right decision
and had no regrets.

Johnson said police would now go through the information provided by Gosling in detail.
“Ray
is really shattered. He is delighted to be out,” Johnson told
reporters. “He provided the police with a lot of information and they
have now got to sift through that.”

Under British law, assisting
a suicide is punishable by up to 14 years in prison, but courts have
become reluctant to convict people who help seriously handicapped or
terminally ill loved ones end their lives.

Last year, government
prosecutors were forced to explain under what circumstances they would
file charges against those who help others kill themselves.

You betcha: Fey’s ‘SNL’ return as Palin is likely

(New
York) Tina Fey tells The Associated Press that she’ll probably reprise
her impression of Sarah Palin when she hosts “Saturday Night Live” in
April.

Fey said this week that “it’s inevitable that we’ll try it, at least.” She says “we’ll see if it makes it to air.”
Officials at the NBC show aren’t talking. “SNL” generally doesn’t discuss upcoming sketches because plans change often.
Fey’s
performances as the former Alaska governor and vice presidential
candidate were an icon of the 2008 campaign and drew huge ratings for
“SNL.” They also helped earn her the title of 2008 AP Entertainer of
the Year.

Fey also stars on the NBC sitcom “30 Rock.” She says the “SNL” hoopla was “the strangest thing that’s ever happened to me.”

Thursday’s Watercooler: New Hampshire, Virginia, the Real World – The Highs and Lows of Gay Rights

By Emma Ruby-Sachs , 365gay blogger 02.18.2010 10:10am EST

What an up and down morning you’ve had if, like me, you were tuned in to the news early today.

  • Virginia’s conservative governor issued an executive order that leaves LGBT employees in the state without anti-discrimination
protection. Not surprising considering the illustrious governor also
wrote a thesis way back in graduate school that argued homosexuality
could have a negative effect of society. Nice Virginia. Well done with
    that election.

  • But don’t get depressed before your mid-morning coffee. New Hampshire voted down a measure that would have defined marriage as a union between a man and a woman
yesterday afternoon. It was a legislative blowout with over 200 members voting against the new restrictive definition. In a time of few successful legislative
pushes for gay marriage, this is an excuse to celebrate.

  • Now that you’re feeling warm and fuzzy, I’ve got another heart warmer for you. Mike, from this season’s real world , came out to his mother last night. She supported him whole-heartedly.
And now Mike feels like he’s “reached the top of everest” because his
mom “has his back.” Good for you Mike!

  • But don’t think all the celebrity gossip is going to put you in a good mood for that morning meeting.  Hillary Duff ’s new “that’s so gay” ad was snubbed by the Superbowl alongside the ManCrunch spot. Still, Focus on the Family got their pathetically bad ad included in the Superbowl line up.

  • Before you go, Uganda , the much beloved gay friendly country we are constantly hearing
about, has a new special way of ramping up anti-gay violence: showing gay porn . Pastor Martin Ssempa showed a gay porn video blog-uganda-pastor-insert to his congregation in order to encourage violence against homosexuals.
Good thinking Martin, except what are you going to do with all your
congregants who were seriously turned on?

Have a great day! Watch some porn and relax. Everyone, even the most religious among us, are doing it.
