Oscars 2010 a Snooze Fest

From the opening number--Neil Patrick Harris subbing for Martin Short, singing a bad, sometimes vulgar, Marc Shaiman take-off to what looked like, maybe, a salute to old M-G-M movies or
the Follies--to the last award given this has to rate as one of the
most boring Oscar telecasts ever.

The
producers promised a lot but didn't deliver. There was, as always, the
continuous laundry list of thank you's and the 'big' song and dance
number was a waste of time. The winning song--"The Weary Kind" was
promptly forgotten as soon as the award was given. Have you ever heard
it? I didn't think so.

Possibly the
only upset was Geoffrey Fletcher's win for best adapted screenplay for
"Precious" and his was the most heart felt acceptance speech. Yes,
Sandra Bullock and Jeff Bridges talked about and to their parents--he
to both, her to her mother--but didn't bring a tear to my eyes.

Sandra Bullock looked great and her acceptance speech was fine but what she probably meant as a joke--snubbing Streep when going to the stage--just looked bad and it is about time she dropped this whole 'Streep as my lover' bit.

The
most disappointing speech to me was given by Mo'Nique who upon winning
other awards was really touching but her was political about something
the audience knew little about.

The
salute to those who had died the previous year was handled in a very
dignified way but how do they explain not showing/mentioning Bea Authur and/or Farrah Fawcett?

Steve
Martin and Alec Baldwin didn't bring much to the show though they did
get a few good quips off. I am still trying to figure out the bedroom
clip! The set was way too busy and I am still puzzled by all the lamp
shades in one back drop.

I know it
will never happen but the Oscar show should consist of only the two
writing awards, the 4 acting awards, the best director and the best
picture awards which would make for a tighter and probably moreentertaining show. Did having 10 best picture nominations bring anything to the show?  Maybe an extra TV viewer.

There
wasn't any suspense as to who would win the major awards and not enough
people have seen "The Hurt Locker" to make it a David vs. Goliath that
the producers were trying to promote it. Also, I think Cameron was/is
still paying for his "King of the World" remark from years ago.

No
one made a fool of themselves and none of the acceptance speeches stood
out just as all the fashions were 'nice'--where is a Cher when you need
her?

A silly thing, but major to me,
was seeing Streisand come out to give the best director Oscar and
looking like she needs a make over. She has put on weight and that
outfit she wore was something she would have worn 20 years ago--all
that lace didn't help.

I
am a big fan of Sean Penn's but his remarks last night were all over
the place from his not being a member of the Academy to his mistake in
saying. "The winner is..." which was changed years ago to, "And theOscar goes to..."  He really seemed out of it, as if he didn't belong there.

Yes,
it was a snooze fest, a little over 3 hours and 30 some minutes,
without any surprises of gaffes but guess who will be watching it next
year from beginning to end?
