May 17th 1954 is the date of the Supreme Court decision known as Brown v Board
of Ed of Topeka, KS. This nullified the "separate but equal" 1896 decision that
justified segregation and Jim Crow laws.
It is particularly fitting that on
this 55th anniversary, we push for full equality in marriage laws. To settle for
a "separate but equal" alternative such as civil unions creates a second class
citizenship status for gay marriages.
