Coldest weather of season expected to blow in this week
By Ken Kaye
The coldest weather of the winter was expected to blow in this week, as the
forecast calls for the mercury to plunge into the low 40s on Tuesday night and
possibly the high 30s on Wednesday night.
Mix in wind and the wind chill,
or feels-like temperature, could reach the mid to upper 20s, particularly far
inland in Broward and Palm Beach counties, the National Weather Service in Miami
said.
If so, that would be downright frosty for this otherwise balmy
region. It also would be 18 to 20 degrees below normal for this time of year,
the National Weather Service said. Normally, the low is 59 and the high
75.
In all, it should be a cold week, as conditions weren't expected to
warm back to normal until Friday, weather service meteorologist Dan Dixon said.
Two cold fronts, one to arrive today and a stronger one on Tuesday, are to
deliver the arctic air, part of the same system that already has sunk much of
the nation into a deep freeze.
Today's forecast calls for partly cloudy
skies with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 70s, cooling to the upper 50s
this evening. There also is a 40 percent chance of rain.
Tuesday morning
and early afternoon also should be mild, reaching the low 70s. Later in the day,
the cold air should start flowing in, Dixon said. High temperatures on Wednesday
might not reach 60 degrees and on Thursday should be in the mid to upper 60s,
the weather service said.
