Marley & Me---a Movie Review

You would have to have a heart of coal not to cry or sob or, at the least,
sniffle during the last half hour or Marley and Me. Unfortunately you have to
sit through the first hour and 35 minutes of this film to get to that last half
hour.

The dog(s) playing Marley are all cute, huggable and, in most cases, better actors
than the human beings on the screen. There is nothing wrong with Jennifer Aniston and/or Owen Wilson but there is no
chemistry between them and their 'children' looked like they were cast from a
tryout kids who don't look like their parents.  There is absolutely no 'family'
feeling about this family.

Alan Arkin overacts his role and Kathleen Turner is almost unrecognizable
while Eric Dane, in a thankless role, brings his charisma and 'Dr. Hunky' looks
from "Grey's Anatomy".

I don't know if Owen has always had the nose he has in this movie, though I
don't remember it being so distracting, or maybe it was covered  with make up in
his other roles but, and this is a pun, it is an eye sore throughout the
film.

This is a two hour and five minute film that should
have been, maybe, 90-95 minutes. There
are too many repetitious scenes--how
many times can you laugh at a dog running away from its owner and being chased
by same???--and how many times do we have to see Eric pursuing women to realize
that he is a lecherous , single guy
and the complete opposite of Owen???

If you have ever had a pet or had a pet die than
you will be awash in tears. And because of the last 30 minutes I would hesitate
bringing a young child to see this film. By the same token I wouldn't hesitate
to tell you to just see the last half hour of the film as it isn't necessary to
see what proceeds this though you may
miss a few, very few, smiles and, possibly, one laugh.

Marley and Me is a movie that you will quickly forget once the credits role
but you will remember the pet you had and/or lost.

I am not sure I could see this. The book was so well done, and I am not sure that I can see it transferring well into a movie.
