More and more, lately, I have been feeling
let down by the movies I choose to see. That happened on Friday when I
went to see "Quantum of Solace" and again today when I went to see
"Madagascar: Escape to Africa."
I really
try to go to a movie without any preconceived ideas which is one of the
reasons I would rather see a movie BEFORE I read the reviews and why I
don't give much of a plot away when I review a picture so the reader
can discover the film on their own.
There
are many reasons I select a movie to see which can be from the actors
to the theme to buzz or word of mouth. I have always enjoyed animated
movies back to the old Disney ones like Bambi, Snow White, etc.
Animation has come so far since then, especially the past 10 years,
that sometimes it is enough to see how real, how life-like animated
films are today.
I had enjoyed the first
Madagascar and expected to enjoy this one, too, but it wasn't as
clever, as charming, as funny or original as the first one was which
seems to be the case with most sequels. Most ofthe 'humor' fell flat and was pretty much on a juvenile level.
With
the voices of Ben Stiller, Alex Baldwin, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer,
Jada Pinkett Smith, Andy Richter, just to mention a few, are all
professional and fit their characters while the animated monkeys and
penguins just don't seem to belong in the movie.
This theatre, on Tuesdays, offers tickets for seniors for $5--this one wasn't worth that!
