Los Asado's--a Restaurant Review

One of the many joys of living in South
Florida is the range of different restaurants going from American food
to Italian to Vietnamese to Japanese not to forget Cuban, Mexican,
Spanish--actually from all over the world.

The latest 'fad' has been the blossoming
of Argentinian steak houses ranging from the Chima House, very
expensive, known
for their radazzio,
a continuous offering of various
meats on skewers,to neighborhood storefronts such as Los Asado's where we went for
lunch yesterday.

I have been in this particular location
at least 4 times starting in the 1980s when it was a Mexican restaurant
to last year when it was reincarnated as an Israel restaurant.
It
is in a good location and offers plenty of free parking so the
restaurants that have been here can't be faulted for those two reasons.

I had seen an ad for this place and they mentioned 'Executive
Lunches' for $7.25. As lunches around town average between $11-16 I
figured, with beverages, if the food was even half way decent it would
be a good deal.

Los Asado's bills itself as an
Argentinian/Uruguayan
restaurant. It is a good sized place, bright but
except for a cowhide on one wall nothing to make it stand out. There are
booths ll along the walls which were not meant for anyone overweight so
we took a table. LOL

The floor was being serviced by a waiter and waitress working as a
team and all in all covered the 8-9 taken tables capably.

I ordered coffee ($2) which was a good,
freshly brewed blend served in a glass while Allen had an iced tea
($2.50) once again having me
wonder why the difference in price but I never could get an answer to
that.

I ordered the churrasco (skirt) steak with rice
and a salad while
Allen ordered the meat lasagna also with rice--no vegetable choice--and
salad.

Our drinks were brought to the table
immediately along with a basket of small hot rolls which looked and
tasted like the frozen dough rolls you get  in the supermarket
with a
dish of individually wrapped butter pats. The salads weren't long in
coming and consisted of shredded lettuce and 3 thick slices of tomato
and, unfortunately, individual packets of dressing.

The timing of our main course was excellent served immediately after
we finished our salads. My steak was cooked rare as I specified and
tasted good. Allen's lasagna was tasty with plenty of meat but needed
more sauce. The rice was plain white rice with parsley scattered over
it.

They do have an extensive menu in addition to the specials but I
doubt very little is homemade, made from scratch, which really doesn't portend a good future in
the competitive restaurant business of South Florida.

Our check, with a 20% tip, came to $12 each. The meal was filling and
was a buy for the price, and frozen foods, but I don't think we will be
back. Wonder what kind of food the next restaurant which occupies this
location will be serving?
