No, not those kind of drugs--they are available everywhere!!! :O)
It's
only been recently that I have looked into preventative medicine--if I
had done this years ago I would never have smoked, overeat and/or drink but I did all those things, including avoiding exercise whenever I could.
Recently
a resident here had shingles and I learned more than I wanted to. I was
surprised at the figures for those over 60 who had/have/will have
shingles.
I did some research on the Internet and I discovered
there is a vaccine which I mentioned to my primary and he wrote a
prescription for it. I assumed it would be a shot in my arm or butt but
after getting the prescription I thought it would be oral.
In any case I took the prescription to CVS and they said they didn't carry it. I did ask how much it would cost if it wasn't covered by my insurance (which my doctor assured me it was) and I was told $201.
I had stopped at the Winn Dixie drugstore, then Publix and finally Walgreen's. It seems there was one dose left at the Walgreen's on 17th Street but I held going off there as I wanted to do more research,
which I did when I came home. It seems that there may be very adverse
effects to the vaccine. Now I know my primary doctor wouldn't give me
any medicine that he had/has any question about but I have decided on
holding off getting/taking the vaccine until I see him again on the 7th of May.
Does anybody know of anyone who has had shingles or taken the vaccine and can give me more info on both?
